Melbourne rides your kids will love
Safe, easy destinations recommended by cycling mums

"Oh, the places that we've been together - I just love it! The things I feel and I experience while I'm riding and the fact that my child can be a part of that too, and we can talk about it together - I think it's a lovely shared experience." - Kathy, who rides with her son in a bicycle trailer
Riding with children is a great way to get some fun and exercise, and Melbourne's great network of bike paths make the whole experience much safer and more relaxed.
Here are just a few suggestions for rides around Melbourne that will give your children a buzz.
The Capital City Trail
Passing through beautiful stretches of bushland along the Yarra River, it's sometimes hard to believe you're in the inner city. Excellent destinations along this trail include Dights Falls, Collingwood Children's Farm and the Melbourne Zoo. Find out more at the Bicycle Victoria webpage or download Capital City Trail Notes (Pdf 417KB)
The Port Melbourne Light Rail Trail
A maritime adventure starting with the Melbourne Aquarium, then sailing along beside the light rail all the way to Station Pier (look out for the Spirit of Tasmania) and the beach.
Merri Creek Trail
Drop in at Ceres Environment Park, a hub for sustainable living with animals, permaculture gardens, renewable technology, cafe and farmer's market. Find out more about cycling in Darebin.
Upfield Rail Trail
Young train enthusiasts just love flying along next to the trains. Another favourite destination recommended by the mother of a young trainspotter is the Fawkner Crematorium - parents can enjoy a cuppa at the tearoom while children explore the old train carriage complete with its cargo of coffins!
Darebin Creek Trail
An 11km ride through lovely bushland - you won't believe you are still in the city! The path runs from Alphington to Bundoora - why not end in Bundoora and tuck into some well-deserved scones at the Bundoora Homestead or enjoy the wetlands at Bundoora Park? Find out more about cycling in Darebin.
