Thinking about bike riding?
We think you'll love it. Here's why ...
You've come to the right place for the information you need about all things cycling, as well as the right people to hook up with. Our motive? To make bike riding an experience you'll want to do more often. We think you'll love it. Here's why:
Even if you're not into sport you can enjoy bike riding
Were you always the last person to be picked for the team? Many people who have been put off other sports find that they can enjoy bike riding because:
-
You can combine it with other enjoyable social activities (coffee, anyone?).
-
You can go at your own pace.
-
No one minds if you just cruise along without breaking a sweat. (And no one will stop you from belting along like there's no tomorrow either.)
If you're bamboozled by the thought of using gears and refuse point blank to wear Lycra, don't go away! We'll show you the basics and where to go if you need some more friendly help to get started.
No time to exercise?
It's the bane of modern life. We work long hours in busy but sedentary jobs. That leaves us unfit, stressed and vulnerable to diabetes, heart disease and other lifestyle nasties. Riding a bike for transport is the solution.
If you work in the city and live within 10 kilometres of your workplace, riding to work will generally be faster than any other transport means. That means no more standstill traffic aggravation, no waiting for public transport, and no need to make time to go to the gym. Plus you have the bonus of getting some fresh air and exercise as part of your daily commute to work.
Riding to work may sound ambitious if you're just starting out, but many women find they can work up to it in a very short time.
It's cheap
Setting yourself up with a brand new bike can be expensive. But what a bargain when you compare the cost of cycling to running a car, travelling by public transport or joining a gym. You can spend $500 on a good quality entry-level bike. That's fantastic value when you consider that $500 won't even cover the cost of one year's registration and insurance for a car, nor half a year's public transport fares.
There's no argument. Riding a bike saves you money on petrol, parking, public transport fares and other ways of staying fit and healthy.
