2008 Great Escapade

June E-scapade  Entries are open!

Hi ,

There is snow in Katoomba and rain in Newcastle  so it's lucky for us that the 2008 Great Escapade  Blue Mountains to the Hunter Valley is in March and April next year, when the average temperature will hopefully be higher.

Did you see the shot on the news of the bike path sign between Maitland and Singleton, with water almost to the top? That's part of the 2008 Great Escapade Route! I've been chatting to our wonderful Council Contacts in the Hunter Valley and sending them our best wishes during the flooding. They say everything is getting back to normal. I guess I'll find out on my next trip in July. I'll update you then.

We've opened Rider Entries. So you can join up and start the preparation for your 2008 Great Escapade Journey. We've also opened Volunteer Applications. There's something for everyone. Bring a friend, your partner, cousin, mum, dad, or the bloke that sits next to you at work.

Remember that there are three Ride Options  5-days, 8-days or 13-days  so choose your own adventure! There is something for everyone.

Chat soon!

Information Nights in Sydney

I'll be in Sydney next week and I'm holding a couple of Information Sessions near the Bicycle NSW Office, which is close to Central Station in the CBD, on Tuesday 26 and Thursday 28 June. So if you live near Sydney, register your interest and come along for a chat about the 2008 Great Escapade.

Inside the caves

Oberon and the Jenolan Caves

Exotic wood mushrooms, gem stones, trout, three national parks and a rail trail - if that's not enough to get you excited about riding into Oberon, the highest town in the Blue Mountains and Central Tablelands, there's more! There'll be trips to the fascinating Jenolan Caves (the road really does go right through the middle) and fantastic views across the Tablelands. There is a great online video of the Region - so take a minute or two to check it out.

Who has more grapes - Mudgee or the Hunter?

How does Hoddle Street in Melbourne relate to Mudgee? Who is the Poet of Poet Corner? Did you know that Henry Lawson went to school in Mudgee?

Harry is excited about our Rest Day in Mudgee and has put together some quirky bits and bobs about the Region.

Encourage a Volunteer and win

I'm working on a couple of friends to join the Volunteer Team. Meagan came along and helped out in the Café on our Ride in Tassie this year. She had a ball! If a Rider recommends a Volunteer, who then applies for the Team, they can both go in the draw to win a ticket on the Ride and Sleep Easy Tent Accommodation. Ahhhh!

Getting Prepared

In the July E-scapade, I'll have some preparation ideas. I'd also like to have some stories from you. Tell me how you are going to prepare for the 2008 Great Escapade. It might be setting smaller goals, such as riding 100km around Port Phillip Bay or 5km to 50km in spring. Email me with your training tips, goal and smaller events along the way and I'll have an Australia-wide round up next time!

Pass it on!

In the past month, over 300 people have registered to receive the monthly E-scapade to stay up to date. So, pass this email on to your friends and family  they might want a taste of the action too! They can sign up to receive the July E-scapade and you can go in the draw for a Great Escapade Jersey.
