Rene Bueman is a journalist whose strong passion for cycling, and peerless experience across the sport, is widely respected within the community. He started the St Kilda Cycling Club, who have just celebrated their 10 year anniversary. During the early '90s, he published Totally Bitumen cycling magazine, and in 2002 became the first full-time manager of a privately owned Australian pro-cycling team (Drapac Porsche) after a trip to the Tour de France. He ran his own men's and women's teams for four years in the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic (including having Robbie McEwen on the squad for two years), and went on to become media and transport logistics manager for the event in 2009. He was the event manager for the first two Amy's Ride fundraising cycle events, which included building the event from scratch. Rene has volunteered at numerous cycling events, including the Jayco Herald Sun Tour and the Commonwealth Games. And of course, he is a regular contributor to Bicycle Victoria's Ride On magazine as the respected Gear Guru.
