Ed is halfway to receiving Gold

About this page

Find out what 13 year old Ed from Geelong likes about the 500km Gold Medal Challenge.

Ed, who is 13 years old, cycles around Geelong to accumulate kilometres for the 500km Gold Medal Challenge. To clock up kilometres Ed is riding around town to friend’s houses, to the shops and anywhere else he needs to travel.

Ed likes that he can get to more places around Geelong when riding his bike. He does not need to rely on his parents to drive him places and he can travel further than if he was walking. Ed says “I was inspired to sign up for the 500km Gold Medal Challenge because I wanted to save the environment”. He is happy that by travelling by bike he is not creating any pollution and he notices more sights on the bike compared with when he travels by car, “it is really fun”.

Hundreds of students in Victoria are benefiting from the extra exercise which they are doing by participating in the 500km Gold Medal Challenge. Wanting to “do some exercise to get fit” is another reason Ed signed up for the Challenge.

A number of Ed’s school mates from Norlane High have gotten involved in the 500km Gold Medal Challenge and Ed is leading the way having cycled the most kilometres so far.

Geelong has a number of great trails for cycling which students in the Geelong area might like to cycle in order to accumulate kilometres.

Best of luck in completing the Gold Medal Challenge Ed! We look forward to receiving your log book along with other students log books from Norlane High.
