Why students love the 500km Gold Medal Challenge

About this page

Find out how many kilometres students have accumulated so far, whether there are more students mountain biking than riding at velodromes and how important prizes are as an incentive.

Students taking part in the 500km Gold Medal Challenge completed a progress survey to tell us how they are finding the challenge. Impressively, 73% of students signed up for the event to challenge themselves. A selection of the survey results are below.

Student suggestions to improve the 500km Gold Medal Challenge

Its still heaps of fun! :)

Make a 1000km Challenge to go with the 500km challenge - extra prize.

Make the challenge 1000 kms

Perhaps in every school organise a day on a weekend to go for a bike ride.

I like it!

I need to ride for longer and further

Ride to your friends house and go out for lunch. Afterwards, just ride to a park near you.

Provide more opportunities so students can all get together and ride.

None, I think it is good.

Maybe a website that tracks peoples progress

Online register of km's would be easier than filling out the book.

An event that involves all the 500km gold medal challenge riders to build km's and improve advertising

Have different awards, I personally am finding it easy to accomplish the 500kms on a road bike as I can do long distance no worries. I think that you should have a silver award and bronze award for those that don't think they can accomplish the full 500kms.

I think there should be a range of other prizes such as bike stuff eg punture kits, pumps, ect

Maybe try to organize a place or park where we can ride on a day or even a week to accumulate kilometers.
