Our star non Victoriain performer to date is Kurnell Public School from NSW with an outstanding 97% of students walking and riding to school. Accolades for the keen active travellers in Kurnell.

There are many schools and students who deserve commendations, pats on the back and a round of applause for their enthusiastic participation on the day. Check out some of their stories.

These are some of the highlights from schools who have let us know...

The official launch of National Ride2School Day took place at Brunswick North West Primary School, complete with penny-farthing riders, a Circus Oz trick bike rider, the Go for your life green activity bus, police van and motorbike, and fresh fruit for the students. The Mayor of Moreland, Cr Joe Caputo launched the day and Channel Ten news were on hand to capture all the fun, colour and excitement! (A link to the news grab will be uploaded to this page soon).

South Australia recorded the highest amount of schools registered in states outside Victoria - 52 schools taking part is a tremendous effort. We'll hear their results soon and let you know...

At Corio West Primary in Geelong, the Mayor - Cr Bruce Harwood - launched their new bike shed, so now students can ride to school all the time. Before the shed was built students were unable to ride to school, but with a $5000 Go for your life Bike Shed Seeding grant riding is now encouraged. 47% of students rode their bikes to school for National Ride2School Day, and the school recorded a grand total of 74% of students that walked and rode.

The Mayor of Melton, Cr Bruce Rowan launched the new bike shed at Staughton College. Staughton was one of last year's winners of the Sustainability Bike Shed grants of $15,000, and with a total 45% walkers and riders celebrating yesterday, the shed is being put to good use.

The Surf Coast in Victoria recorded 635 students out of 1049 from two schools in Torquay walking and riding to school. With a 61% average, and supported by their local community and police, their National Ride2School Day was a great event.

Cyclesport Victoria ran bike clinics at Westernport Secondary College and Hastings Primary School. Westernport students used virtual reality bike-simulators to race against other athletes over a 1.5km distance; whilst a bike skills clinic at Hastings involved teachers as well as students.

West Hawthorn Primary School recorded only one car in the parent's car park before school. The majority of students walked to school - a great improvement on the usual car drop-offs! The car looks very lonely in the car park...

Many walkers and riders meant only one car in the carpark at West Hawthorn Primary!
