3. 1000 Bikes Student Nominations Now Open

This year we have made some important changes to 1,000 Bikes. Please make sure that you are familiar with the new process.
- Schools are required to collect bikes from bike shops by 6 October 2008
- Schools can then store or display the bikes at school until they are presented to students - it is the decision of individual schools how and when these presentations will take place.
- Please note: some schools have had their bikes delivered directly to their school.
- Student nominations must be completed online by 7 November - as we need parental permission to give bikes to students and to follow up the students' travel patterns next year.

To assist us in planning publicity around the awarding of bikes to students and identifying opportunities to be involved in the presentation, please notify us at least 3 weeks prior to the planned date that the bikes are to be presented to the two students from your school. Nominations are open until Friday 7 November 2008.
Student eligibility criteria are listed below.
Students must:
1. Be a Year 6 student
2. Be a regular rider/ walker (at least once a week)
3. Have completed Bike Ed and/or Road (or traffic) Safety Education
4. Have parental permission to ride to school (both primary and secondary)
5. Be prepared to make a personal commitment to ride to school
6. Have demonstrated strong leadership qualities and a commitment to active travel through participation in:
their school active travel club/ bike club or,
the Walk and Wheel- a-thon or,
other school active travel program or event.
