Ride2School is running a free Professional Development day in Term 1 2008 for school staff who want to develop the skills to implement the program at their school.
One member of your school staff is invited to participate in the Ride2School PD day.
Ride2School will pay for teacher release for the day.
The session will be appropriate for anyone who has an interest in getting students walking and riding more often. They don’t need to have had any previous involvement in the Ride2School program. It is appropriate for both primary and secondary school staff
Where?: Bicycle Victoria Boardroom, Level 10,
When?: Tuesday 26th February, from 9.00am to 4.30 pm
Lunch will be provided
Topics to be covered on the day will include:
- Introduction/background/rationale for Ride2School program
- Some case studies from schools involved in Ride2School
- Identifying barriers, and developing strategies to overcome them
- Organising and promoting events – eg R2S Days and strategies to promote active travel
- Bike Ed – background/rationale/organisation/resources
- Hands Up! – background/rationale/procedure/discussion
- Ride2School Curriculum – resources and how to incorporate
- Improving infrastructure – bike storage, safe routes, crossings, entrances
- Promoting the program – presentations, newsletter inserts, using the media, merchandise
- Useful resources and contacts
On the day, each participant will develop an individual plan of implementation for their school.
There will be opportunities to ask questions, discuss work with other participants and access the Ride2School website
Participants will receive a folder of materials and a range of Ride2School merchandise
Further teacher release funding will be available after the day for school contact with a Ride2School Schools Coordinator and/or self directed work on program implementation.
