News and events

Start the term with a Hands Up!
We recommend you book in three Hands Up! for this term and see if you can beat your winter score. There is enough of July left to get an early Hands Up! done and win a bike.
Winter winners
Tyabb Railway Station PS, Mornington Peninsula, achieved the greatest increase in active travel from May to June. An 18% increase means they will receive a Malvern Star bike as one of our June prize winners.
Final call
Sustainable Bike Shedapplications – close 5pm 18 July for your chance to win $14 500 towards building your dream bike shed.
Warrnambool leads the way
Warrnambool invited the team from Ride2School for a three-day visit to schools in the area. Read about the fun bike-khana with the Mayor and State MP. The idea of riding to school was all over the local radio and papers and now an impressive 14 out of 16 Warrnambool schools are registered with the program.

News from NSW
‘It is a fantastic way to get active… and have fun’ says Guy
See the winning poster by Christian Babilonsky from the Pocket Public School, south of Tweed Heads in NSW. The poster will be on the front cover of the NSW Ride2School brochure and read why Guy Leech is backing Ride2School.
Ride2School’s Nifty Numbers
Ride2School has been analysing the data collected from schools and here are our first impressive numbers. Find out why registered schools achieve active travel rates more than twice the state average, how 42% of Victorian schools are registered with the program, and why ride2school is an idea whose momentum is building.
Keep up the momentum

Better than chocolate
Schools are invited to fundraise the healthy way with the Walk and Wheel-a-thon. It’s a great way to promote active travel and to get more students walking and riding.
“I just want to have fun and do my best.”
Kylie Payne from Castlemaine is the first girl, and the second student overall to achieve gold in the 500km Gold Medal Challenge. Read how this motivated year 8 student developed her own training program and scored her personal achievement.
Say “Hi” to Cadel
Cadel Evans, long-time supporter of Ride2School, says “Riding to school is a logical lifestyle choice.” Get your students to show support for the star Australian cyclist during the Tour de France. Send Ride2School your letters and we will send them on to him.
Riding events

Secondary students - Cycle with a world champion
The 80km School Challenge is part of Around the Bay in a Day on Sunday 19 October. The first 100 riders to complete their entries in July will be able to participate in a Bike Safety session with two times World Triathlon Champion, Emma Stanford.
Mad about mountain biking?
Individual students and school teams – get down and dirty at the Surf Coast Mountain Bike Festival in October. You don’t have to be an awesome rider – if you’ve been riding for a while it’s a natural next step to try a race.
Getting more students walking and riding

Now the bike shed is full!
Last term there were three riders at Kingsbury PS, Darebin. Read how a ten week Bike Ed course has made all the difference.
