Want some help with your Bike Ed program?

About this page

Did you know that Ride2School has a group of volunteer Bike Ed assistants who are ready to help with Bike Ed classes at your school? They are enthusiastic, fully trained and available to help in schools in Melbourne and Geelong.

If your school is planning to run a Bike Ed course this year, please contact Ride2School to see if one or more of our volunteers is available in your area.

Bike Ed is an activity which requires a high level of supervision, and having some extra assistance can allow the course to run much more smoothly. Our volunteers, who have done the two day training course and a Working with Children Check, can provide valuable assistance with a range of Bike Ed activities. They can help with bike and helmet checks, help supervise skills rotations, assist with on-road tests and help with supervision of group rides.

The Bike Ed volunteers are all cycling enthusiasts who are very happy to share their skills and knowledge with a new generation of riders.

Please note that although the volunteers have trained as instructors, their role is not to plan or supervise the course. They work under the direction of the teachers, who take overall responsibility for management of the course and the students.

If you would like volunteer assistance with your Bike Ed program, or more information, contact Andrew at the Ride2School team. You can also phone him on 8636 8883.

If you would like to help out and volunteer to become a Bike Ed assistant, also email Andrew, or phone him on the above number.

Glen Sowter, PE teacher at Cambridge Primary School, really values the help of our Bike Ed assistants. A number of volunteers helped supervise the Year 4 and 5 students on their long end-of-course ride. "We greatly appreciate the assistance provided by your volunteers with our bike ride. They were fantastic!'
