About this page
Our mission, our vision, our cause. How you can help.
Your membership helps make great things happen and it gives you many opportunities to make a great contribution.
Like what?
October 2006 VicRoads completed a $14 million bike path; The Federation Trail
This path will be encouraging, supporting and nurturing bike riders for the next 50 years. It is impossible to calculate the benefits to the individuals and the community from a project like this.
How did members help?
We don't claim all the credit, many contributed to this success, but there is no doubt without the membership of Bicycle Victoria it would not have occurred.
- Keep the idea alive when the route was threatened with sale
- Spoke up when local opposition threatened to stop the plan
- Wrote letters when the money couldn't be found
- Wrote again when the project stalled at the last minute.
Members also contribute their time and expertise to the programs we run such as Ride2School and Ride to Work. Members are often the workplace organisers who make Ride to Work Day happen.
Even if you don't like 'politics', your membership helps us speak with authority on behalf of riders in private conference and in public to the media.

What's the benefit to me?
The benefits may not come to you as a member on each project, you may not live anywhere near the Federation Trail, but there are many other projects that will benefit you.
It is a satisfying being part of something big and positive and fun, such as;
- Riding a new bike route
- Improving students abilities to ride and walk to school
- Improving existing infrastructure and facilities
- Providing more safe bike parking in public places
- Raising the profile of bike riding nationally, and in the local community
- Encouraging more people to ride to work
Together we can make a substantial difference getting more people cycling more often
What can I expect to be involved in as a Bicycle Victoria Member?
- Surveys
- Emails to ministers and councils
- Writing letters to ministers and councils
It's our intention to make these relevant to you as a bike rider and to the area (postal / municipaility / state) in which you ride.
Your voice and opinion in all these activities influence decision makers and give us the power to go to councils to voice your concerns and make changes happen.
How will you hear about these things?
We will email you directly with calls to action for contacting councils in your postal area / municipality / state.
In the Loop eNewsletter; your source of information about what is happening in the cycling world and where Bicycle Victoria's 'voice' is needed.
Have we got your email address?
If you are a Bicycle Victoria Member make sure you are receiving In the Loop eNews. Send an email to us with your name (and membership ID number if you know it) and we will make sure you receive it.
