CycleSafe Home insurance reduces the impact of those everyday dramas

Everything but the purse...

Kaylene caught a taxi one night to meet friends and accidentally left her bag containing her phone, purse and other personal items in the car. Once she realised she contacted the taxi company who were unable to recover the bag. As Kaylene’s CycleSafe Home Contents insurance policy covered all of her contents for accidental damage or loss she was able to claim and had all of her belongings replaced.

Stones throw away

Rochelle was competing in a cycling race when her bike hit a small stone as she was going around a corner. Due to the fall the bike suffered some substantial damage, thankfully Rochelle had the racing extension attached to her CycleSafe Home & Contents insurance policy which meant that her bike was covered whilst she was racing as well as usual everyday riding. Her bike was replaced.

Not the Kodak moment he had hoped for

Tom was on a cycling ride with friends when they stopped for a breather and a look at the view. Unfortunately Tom dropped his camera whilst taking a photo, it slipped down a bank and into the river. As his CycleSafe Home & Contents Insurance policy covers Accidental Damage, the camera was replaced within a couple of weeks.

Singlets in the Storm

Heather came home from work one afternoon following a storm that had occurred during the day only to find that her washing line had been completely destroyed by a tree that had fallen on it. Luckily for Heather her CycleSafe Home Insurance policy covered her Building as well as her Contents for Accidental Damage. Her insurer replaced the washing line and also paid for the removal of the tree

Covered inside and out

Georgia parks her car in an indoor car park during work hours. One evening, she found her car had been broken into and a bag of personal and cycling gear had been stolen. Fortunately, Georgia's CycleSafe Home Insurance policy covers her contents outside of the home, both for theft and accidental damage, so her claim was paid and the items replaced.

Anywhere, Anytime

Whilst on a cycling holiday to France, Billy was admiring the scenery, hit a pothole in the road and came off his bike. Luckily he had a CycleSafe Home insurance which covered his contents not only anywhere in Australia or New Zealand at any time but also in any other country for up to 90 days. So upon his return home Billy’s claim was paid.

You're nicked!

Heather got home one night after work and discovering that she hadn’t left the house in the state that she now found it, realizing that she had been broken into. She went to the police station and filed a report and subsequently the burglar was found and most of the items returned, although some in a worse condition. During the robbery some household belongings had been damaged beyond repair including those returned to her. QBE’s CycleSafe Home Insurance policy replaced all of the damaged items within a matter of days.

Hit's close to home

James was driving his car home following a cycling holiday with friends, as he drove up the driveway and pulled into the carport he heard a sickening crunch and realised that his bike was still attached to the roof of his car and was now suffering a cracked frame amongst other damage. James’ Accidental Damage CycleSafe Home Insurance policy quickly paid for the repair to his bicycle.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Andy and his wife were having their house completely renovated so the premises were temporarily unoccupied. They had some new appliances (including a washing machine and toilet suite) delivered to the property prior to installation. These items were stolen whilst still in their boxes by a thief who managed to break through the security fencing as well as the back door. Fortunately Andy’s CycleSafe Home Insurance policy covered their contents at their premises despite the fact that the property was temporarily unoccupied.

Out for a duck:

John was at the cricket, about to call his wife to tell her when he would be home. It was then that he realised his phone had been stolen. Luckily for John, his CycleSafe Home insurance policy covered his contents away from his home and his phone was duly replaced.

What could have been an expensive coffee:

Mary rode her bike to meet friends for a coffee one Sunday morning. When she returned to ride home she realised that her bike had been stolen.  Thankfully the loss of Mary’s bike was covered under her CycleSafe Home Insurance policy. She put in her claim and was able to pick up her new bike within 2 weeks.

You can't stop the music:

Whilst out riding one weekend Melanie hit a pothole in the road and her iPod dropped from her pocket and rolled into the water, needless to say it was damaged beyond repair.  Thanks to her new CycleSafe Home Insurance policy Melanie’s ipod was replaced within a week.

Quick Turnaround from the roundabout:

James was riding to work one morning and was unexpectedly hit by a car at a roundabout. James did not suffer any major injuries however his bike was severely damaged, fortunately his Cyclesafe Home Insurance policy paid for all repairs to his bike.

Summer is here, so are the snakes!

Whilst riding on a Bike Path in Western Australia, Dave noticed a snake on the path in front of him. He swerved to avoid the snake which spun around and headed directly into his path. Slightly unnerved Dave lifted his foot out of the pedal and somehow got it caught in the front wheel which ended up in him being sent over the handlebars. This resulted in a damaged hub which was fortunately covered by his CycleSafe Home insurance policy - the snake has not been seen since!

Pushing your bike to its limits:

As an avid downhiller, Adam's bikes face some serious abuse. Adam knows this and was careful to have his bikes insured as part of his CycleSafe Home Insurance. After one mistake too many, Adam cracked his downhill frame on a tree stump, and was happy to have it replaced with a new frame by his local bike shop.

Diamonds are forever, even if its a different one:

Bikes can cost you money, even when you DO stay on. Sarah was out riding with friends when she realised the diamond in her engagement ring was missing. Luckily she'd specified the ring on her CycleSafe Home Insurance policy, and was able to make a claim to replace the diamond and have it reset with minimal fuss.

Lucky Nev

Nev lived in the country and rode mostly on country roads, which are not always in the best condition. Out riding with a group one weekend, Nev hit a large pothole and the shock cracked his downtube AND the chain stays! Nev managed to stay on the bike, but the bike was ruined. Luckily Nev had recently renewed his CycleSafe Home Insurance and was able to have the bike repaired almost straight away.

Sticks and Stones may break your bones...

Terry was out riding in the hills when a stick flew into the spokes of her bike. She flipped over the handlebars, damaging both her body and her bike. The hospital pieced Terry back together, but her CycleSafe Home Insurance was there to pick up the cost of her repairs.

Watch your Back...pack:

While out riding, Pat forgot to zip up her backpack after buying a drink. When she returned to her car, she noticed her wallet, phone and repair kit were missing. Backtracking, she discovered her (empty) wallet and repair kit, but her phone and the cash and credit cards from her wallet were gone. Her CycleSafe Home policy covered the missing cash and a replacement phone with one quote.

Gary is in hot water!

CycleSafe Home isn't just for bikes. Gary noticed his floorboards were warping, and a bit of searching found a leaking hot water heater. The hot water itself wasn't covered as it was just getting old, but the resultant damage was. An assessor came out to look at the problem and organised the repair work to be done.

What's the sound of a carbon fibre snapping?

While riding with friends, Steve hit a pothole which snapped the glue holding his carbon frame together. The manufacturer wouldn't come to the party, but with his CycleSafe Home policy, Steve was able to get a replacement frame, along with other components damaged in the crash.

CycleSafe Home isn't there just for your bikes, don't forget about life's little accidents:

Peter left a brand new laptop sitting on the table, and unfortunately his pet cat decided to mark its territory on the keyboard. Peter had the laptop repaired and submitted the claim on his CycleSafe Home Insurance policy. A cheque was made out to Peter to reimburse him for the repairs

Sally had her mountain bike attached to roof racks which unfortunately pulled free at 110km/h!

Her bike, still attached to the racks, was demolished when it hit the road. Fortunately she had CycleSafe Home Insurance and was able to make a claim for a replacement bike.

Not just your bike:

CycleSafe Home Insurance covers a lot more than just your bikes. Mark's pool pump burnt out, so after a quick call to Middleditch Insurance Brokers, Mark had the pool company out to replace the pump motor with no delays, to prevent the pool turning green. Mark had already paid the repairer, so QBE reimbursed Mark for his costs quickly.

No more holes in Brian's new titanium frame

Brian suffered some misfortune when he crashed on a poor road surface while riding in a group. Unfortunately the crash tore a hole in his aluminium frame, so Brian decided to replace his old bike with a new titanium frame as part of his claim. His CycleSafe Home Insurance paid Brian's bike shop for the replacement value of his bike and damaged components and Brian has ordered his brand new frame.

Down but not out:

Jake recently crashed his bike during a race when he hit a wet manhole cover. The subsequent crash brought down several riders. Jake suffered only minor injuries, but his bike, helmet, knicks and jersey were all damaged or destroyed. Within two weeks of lodging the claim, Jake was mailed a cheque for nearly $8,000 to replace his damaged bike and gear from his chosen bike shop.

Timing is everything:

Ferdinand had recently heard about CycleSafe Home™ Insurance from a friend and subsequently took out a policy. Just a week later his apartment carpark was burgled and his bike was stolen along with all of his touring accessories. Ferdinand obtained a quote to replace the lot and his claim payment was made within the week.

What was that noise ?

Arriving home after a day spent cycling, a Bicycle Victoria member forgot to take the bike off her car roof racks. Unfortunately, the bike hit the top of the garage door. The bike was unable to be repaired, but QBE Insurance came to the rescue and arranged a replacement bicycle and equipment without delay.

The Wrong Cycle:

How carefully do you check the clothes to be washed?

It was too late when a Bicycle Victoria member recently discovered that her mobile phone was left in her pants pocket. It was only discovered after the washing machine had progressed to the drying cycle. QBE Insurance helped to replace the mobile phone with a current equivalent model.

An Abrupt Halt:

Mechanical failure can strike when you least expect it. A Bicycle Victoria member suffered a mechanical failure causing damage to the gearing mechanism. The chain got caught in the derailer causing the bike to come to an abrupt halt. Needless to say, the bike sustained a buckled wheel. Luckily, the rider was OK, however, we imagine his pride was dented. A settlement cheque was processed the day after the claim was reported to QBE Insurance.

Just because it's at home, does not guarantee it's always safe.

Dean had his bike stored in his garage, locked up, with the garage locked, and yet it was still stolen.

Sometimes, it doesn't matter how much precaution you take, expensive bikes are a target. Within a couple of weeks of contacting Middleditch, Dean had a cheque for the replacement of his bike, valued at over $4,000.

Simon's gears were not safe, but an answer was at hand for him.

Simon parked his bike in Windsor, and despite locking it as securely as he could, he returned to find his brakes and handgrips had been stolen! He lodged his claim with Middleditch, and within 8 days, a cheque had been mailed to replace the stolen parts.
