About this page

Riders coming from the Geelong to Melbourne direction will need to read this, as the ride route as changed at the Point Cook Road off ramp through Laverton North due to the Laverton Rail Upgrade works.

Changes to the Ride Route

Please note that there has been an alteration to the ride route for riders travelling from Geelong to Melbourne.

This occurs at the Point Cook Road off ramp, Princes Freeway onto Aviation Road. Hobsons Bay City Council advise that there are on going road works on the west side of Aviation Road. They except all works will be completed to a stage where it will be suitable for the riders to travel on.

Laverton Rail Upgrade Project

John Holland and Connex are currently in the process of upgrading the Laverton Rail line, which affects the Merton Street underpass, which was part of the rider route.

What does this mean?

Due to on going construction works to the Merton Street underpass, access to this part of the ride route is not available.

On the weekend of the 17 -18 October as the rail line will be closed, there will be increase traffic conditions using Railway Avenue with additional buses running. We ask all riders and other vehicles users to take care and travel safely through this section of the rider route.

We have advised Connex of the Ride and ask them to remind their bus drivers of the increased bike rider traffic.

Change in the Rider Route - what does this mean for the Riders?

As the Merton Street underpass access is closed, all riders will still need to get off the Princes Freeway at the Point Cook Road off ramp travelling along Aviation Road and turning right at the roundabout into Railway AvenueRiders will need to turn right off Railway Avenue into Merton Street and travel along to the Queens Street and Merton Street roundabout turning left onto Queens Street.

Riders travel up to the roundabout at Queens Street and Maidstone Street and complete a left turn into Maidstone Street.

Riders travel up to intersection of Maidstone Street and Kororiot Creek Road and turn right with care at the traffic lights into Kororiot Creek Road.   The riders will then be back onto the rider route.

This section of the rider route will be signed accordingly.
