Cycle Queensland 2009: Darling Downs Loop
9 days, 560kms, 1000 friends : Pedal away from the everyday
Are cold and frosty mornings getting you down? Do you need something to sustain you through the chilly mornings still to come? Are you dreaming about riding along and feeling the warmth of the sun on your back? Then celebrate the start of spring on Cycle Queensland 2009.
Cycle Queensland 2009 is a nine-day, fully catered cycling adventure organised by Bicycle Queensland. Starting and finishing in Toowoomba, the ride will explore the Darling Downs with its rolling plains and rural townships full of character and charm. And we've added all the ingredients for a perfect cycling holiday … quiet country roads, blue skies and warm sunny days.
Why do people come on Cycle Queensland? For some it's a challenge, for others it's an adventure but for many it's simple - 9 days, 560kms, 1000 friends.
Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride
Cycle Queensland is all about having fun - both on and off your bike. You don't need to worry about cooking meals, transporting luggage or navigating your way around a map. All your needs are taken care off.
The event is designed to let you have fun and enjoy your cycling. Our tent city has first aid, mechanics, bike shops, masseurs, a general store, tourist information, licensed café, toilets and hot showers. We serve up three generous meals a day and transport your luggage. All you have to do after a day on the bike is collect your bags and put up your tent. In the afternoons and evenings there is plenty to do and see: take a tour, party-on at the local inn or just chill out at the picturesque campsites.
Getting there and back
From Melbourne, fly into Brisbane Airport and jump on our charter bus service or one of any number of commercial services that run regularly to Toowoomba, just 120km away. And transporting your bike is easy – as this year we’ve extended our popular depot-to-depot bike transport service to Melbourne. Drop your boxed bike to our depot and we’ll transport it to Toowoomba in time for the start of the ride. And then you can do it in reverse to get your bike home. We have a North Melbourne depot and are aiming to have one in the south-east. There’s also a carpark available in Toowoomba if you want to combine your cycling trip with a driving tour. For more info go to www.bq.org.au and download the Bike Transport and Getting there and home again info sheet.
