It’s 12 and a half weeks until we go west for the 2008 Great Vic! We’ve been working hard to make sure that we’re putting on a fantastic holiday for you – so we’ve got a jam packed Gearing Up for you. Take time to have a read and then jump on your bike to get in training for the Ride!

P.S. If you registered before 31 July, you should have received your Welcome Pack in the mail. School Groups – your Welcome Pack is being sent to your Organising Teacher this week, so you should have it next week. For those who registered after 31 July, your Welcome Pack will be sent next week. The next installment is your Preparation DVD – coming soon!
Did the Great Vic make the Top Ten?
Check out the special episode of Postcards on Channel Nine on 26 September to find out whether your votes got the Great Vic into the RACV’s Top Ten tourism experiences in Victoria! Meanwhile, read the glowing comments from Riders and bask in the kudos of getting a 4.5 Star rating.
Tim & Tim - Lights camera … pedal
The Two Tims are coming along to film the Great Vic for their Travel OZ 2009 series, screening in Australia/Asia on ABC and in Europe on the Travel Channel. This could be your turn in the limelight!
Pat & Tracey Ride for Diabetes
After their son Tim was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Pat and Tracey Esler rode for the cause and raised much needed funds for Diabetes Australia – Vic. Join them this year by getting sponsored for our Ride Charity Partner. Remember to create your own Fundraising Page and ask your friends & family to sponsor your ride to raise funds for diabetes education, research and support programs.
Grampians Explorer – a taste of the Great Vic
If you have friends or family who are keen to join the Great Vic, but not sure on going the whole way, let them know about the short Ride Option, the Grampians Explorer. If you are already on the Grampians Explorer, please check out the updated Transport Options, including the Long Term Car Park.
Volunteers – Spread the word
We have over 400 Volunteers in the Great Vic Team, led by 15 Volunteer Team Leaders. These guys and girls are gearing up to make the Great Vic a fantastic holiday for you. If you have any friends or family who are keen to join the Ride as a Volunteer, make sure they don’t miss out. Tell them to apply to be a Volunteer today.

Balance of your Ride Entry
For those who selected to pay the $200 deposit before 31 July, remember that the Balance of your Ride Entry is due on 17 October 2008. School Groups, please note that you will need to pay your Balance and make any changes to your Ride Options, through your Organising Teacher.

Time to go shopping at Anaconda
Check out the Anaconda Order Form to get access to some great deals from Anaconda. Also, if you requested an Anaconda Voucher, please remember that it is valid until 1 December 2008, so time to go shopping!
Lend us your Vehicle!
If you would like to volunteer your vehicle to be used during the Ride, please visit the Volunteer your Vehicle page and register your interest.
Schools – do the Great Vic & get a Gold Medal
Secondary students - take up the challenge! Accumulate 500kms on your bike to receive your gold medal. Register for the 500km Gold Medal Challenge before 19 November.
The School Welcome Kits are going in the post this week. So if you are part of a School Group, sit tight, your information is on the way! Your Organising Teacher will receive your Welcome Kit for distribution. Any changes to your Rider Entry will need to be through your Organising Teacher.
Find a reason to get your bike – Ride to Work
A great motivator for Great Vic training, join thousands of others as the weather warms up, get on your bike and ride to work. Register to join in the fun of National Ride to Work Day.
Tempted to visit Australia’s South West?
With your Great Vic bike fit body, you can come to Margaret River in March 2009 and we’ll take you on a loop around the magnificent South West. Entries are now open for the 2009 Great Escapade – Western Australia. If you’re from the Eastern States, enter by 31 October to save over $200 on bike transport. Others who enter early will receive a Ride Jersey.
A great training option - ride Around the Bay in a Day
Want to convince yourself that you can achieve the challenge of the Great Vic? Why not join over 14,500 others on Australia's premier mass participation Bike Ride on Sunday 19 October? A great addition to your Great Vic training schedule, with 50km, 80km (Schools), 100km, 210km and 250km options. Some Ride options have sold out and others are close to capacity, so register today. Registrations close 3 October 2008.
Show your card and save!
Bicycle Victoria Members - use your Membership card to receive the more value for money at participating bike shops and other retailers around Victoria.
