WARBY Preparation Rides
About this page
Let the WARBY Team help you prepare
Is the 2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride your first Great Ride? Do you have a lot of questions which need answering? Haven’t ridden 60km in one day before? Help is at hand - come along on one of the two Great Preparation Rides the WARBY team is conducting for first-time riders.
The Preparation Rides will offer the opportunity to:
- Experience riding in a group
- Ask questions of the WARBY team about the Great Rides
- Pick up Great Ride tips and tricks from the WARBY Team
- Have your riding technique assessed
- Have your bike setup assessed
Don’t forget you need to start riding now - a little and often, building up to longer distances as your fitness improves.
Participants in the WARBY Preparation Rides must have registered as a Rider on the 2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride.
The Preparation Ride details:
When?
- Saturday 6 September 2008 - was loads of fun
- Saturday 11 October 2008 - with over 40 Riders and loads of WARBYs & helpers, this Ride was a great success
How long?
60km
Where?
Meet in Federation Square opposite Flinders St. Station at 9.00am for a pre-Ride briefing, the Ride will depart at 9.30 sharp.
You will be led you out along the Yarra and Gardiners Creek Trails to Wattle Park where we will stop for lunch (remember to bring it with you). After a break you will continue on through Box Hill and return to Birrarung Mar along the Koonung Creek Path and the Yarra Trail. See map in the panel on the right.
There are limited opportunities to buy food either along the way or out at Wattle Park, so we recommend you bring something to eat along with you.
What to bring:
For the Preparation Rides and for the Great Victorian Bike Ride don’t forget to carry with you:
- one (or preferably two) filled water bottles
- snacks (and lunch on the Preparation Ride)
- sunscreen
- a spare tube to suit your bicycle
- clothing to suit the expected weather conditions on the day
How to carry it:
Can’t fit all this in your bum-bag? Try not to succumb to the back-pack, instead consider purchasing panniers or a rack-top bag which will get the weight off your back and down low on your bike will improve stability and make the load easier to carry.
Bicycle Victoria reserves the right to change the route without notice.
