Diabetes Australia – Vic is the proud Charity Partner of the 2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride

The Lawther family ride for Diabetes!

Ashburton dad Peter Lawther will make sure he carries plenty of sweets when he, his wife and three children embark on the Great Victorian Bike Ride at the end of November.

However, the sweets won't be for young Emma 10, nor Adam 12, nor James
14 but for their dad. The 44-year-old found out he has Type 1 Diabetes earlier this year.

The family will travel 590km on their bikes through breath-taking Victorian terrain. “It just seemed the perfect time for us to do the ride with the kids,” Mr Lawther said. “Being diagnosed with diabetes just added another dimension.”

Dubbing themselves ‘Team Lawther’ the family are actively seeking sponsorship for their ride to raise funds for Diabetes Australia - Vic.

Mr Lawther says he wants his children to be aware of diabetes and the importance of leading a healthy active lifestyle. “The only good thing about my being diagnosed is the kids have become aware of the disease,” Mr Lawther says. “My children are now 10 times more likely to get diabetes, so I want to do anything to help find a cure for diabetes.”

You can sponsor Team Lawther.

Pat and Tracey ride for Diabetes

Pat and Tracey Esler's son, Tim was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on 14th July 2007 (during National Diabetes Week) about two weeks before his HSC trial exams. Read their story and how they raised $3000 last year. What an inspiration!
