A Great Ride Romance!
Bicycle Victoria Members John and Catherine met at Yarram on the rest day of the Mt Hotham to Melbourne Great Victorian Bike Ride in 2003. Friendship blossomed initially, but love took a little longer. This is their third Ride together since then and John proposed to Catherine by the sea at Bicheno on Tuesday. He was told that he couldn’t propose on Valentine’s Day because it would be too predictable.
The ring was kept secret in John’s Camelback and will complete the Ride on Catherine’s hand.
You can look for Catherine on the Ride on her cow bike; John will be dutifully following behind.
Catherine loves the coast so John couldn’t propose on the top of any of the hills we have ridden over, although he was very tempted to do so in the wind and rain of Little Plains Lookout Rest area, two days ago.
They met on the Ride, got engaged on the Ride—maybe a wedding on the Ride!

John and Catherine got married on 10 June 2007 and are now living in Kilmore in country Victoria.
The Rides really are romantic!
