7. What riders are saying about 2007
About this page
We have received a numerous emails and phone calls from Riders who participated in the Portfolio Partners Around the Bay in a Day 2007 - read what they have to say!
On Everything!
"It was FANTASTIC! What an amazing event! The ATB is the kind of event that really leaves you with a buzz.
All of the staff and volunteers on the day were so helpful and friendly.
The route and associated marshalling was spot on. I never felt like I was lost or unsure where to go.
Lunch was perfect. It was just what I felt like - healthy and fresh.
The finishing chute and finish site were excellent. They really amplified the feeling of achievement at the end of such a great journey.
So THANK YOU to all involved - I had a GREAT day."

On Rider Behaviour
"I was one of the thousands who enjoyed yesterday's [Portfolio Partners] Around the Bay in a Day (ATB).
A friend and I rode to Sorrento and back - we found most, if not all, the cyclists were well behaved and all other road users were most respectful of the cyclists.
We witnessed just a couple of incidents where the patience of motorists had worn somewhat thin and they were a little vocal toward their two-wheel friends. Despite those few moments, most of the car drivers were courteous towards the cyclists.
...Congratulations to Bicycle Victoria for organising ATB and thanks, and congratulations, to all those who volunteered to help make the event successful
The new start/finish area in Alexandra Gardens seemed ideal. [The] weather was fierce, but that is something that is beyond the control of Bicycle Victoria.
Again, thanks"

On Signage
"I just want thank you [Bicycle Victoria] for putting on another wonderful event on Sunday. It was my third ride on this event and each year I feel the organisation gets better. The marshals should all be congratulated, signage and organisation at Sorrento was first rate.
Thanks again"
Arie Hendriks
On Route Sweeping
"Thanks for organising another great event and I'm glad the weather gods applauded your efforts!
I let it be known last year that I wasn't happy about the amount of debris on the road and in fact felt quite unsafe... Happy to say that this year was a huge improvement! I'm sure it's not an easy job getting various councils to clear 420km of road kill and truck tyres...
Our team was largely from Sydney and while we did make a few wrong turns (or rather missed the right turns) that is much better than than hitting half a brick at 35kmph in the middle of a peleton.
The volunteers were excellent and I think we let them know it as we thanked them on our way around.
Thanks again"
Joe Bishop
On Lunch
"This was my fifth [Portfolio Partners Around the Bay in a Day] and I personally thought this year the meal was the best offered. The chicken and salad sandwich was just the right amount of food (other years I've not been able to hoe through all that was provided).
I reached Queenscliff @ 11.15 there was a substantial queue when I arrived, however in just minutes I was through with lunch and drink and minutes after that directed to the ferry. Arrived in Sorrento just on one- that's impressive! The signage this year was better than other years too.
It was a great day!
Full marks to the organisers and volunteers."
David Phillips
On the Start/Finish site
"May I congratulate and thank [Bicycle Victoria] and all the volunteers for another wonderful event. It gets better every year.
The Start/Finish area was an excellent choice, although riding down City Road was a bit of a drag, too many traffic lights!
A brilliant event, I am already looking foward to next year."
John Henry
First time on the 50km Ride
"I went with a friend on the 50 km ride yesterday for the first time and just wanted to say thanks for a job well done.
I must commend the work of all who assisted in putting it on, especially the marshals who braved the hot conditions to assist with directions etc.
We had a great day and enjoyed it immensely and wonder why we haven't participated previously.
Again, well done and thanks."
Ian Ball
Community Event
"I would like to say thanks to everyone for the superb support and organisation of the Round the Bay in a Day.
It was my third successive Round the Bay in a Day and the level of professionalism in the event organisation outstripped previous years. From the planning and event preparation leading up to the day and the organisation of the day itself, it was testament to the commitment and talent of obviously many dedicated staff and volunteers behind the scenes.
Thanks again for your superb efforts in making Round the Bay in a Day a truly memorable community event for so many people."

On our Volunteers
Riders mention our volunteers in their feedback regularly. The event could not happen without them, and Bicycle Victoria is honoured to have such amazing people helping make the event happen.
"Firstly I would like to congratulate everyone who helped organise and run this great ride.
You must be very proud of everyone who helped with the event. Everyone was helpful positive and pleasant to talk to,a big thanks go to the volunteers who did a great job,and the meals provided were fantastic really well catered for. Thanks for a great experience - see you all next year."
Shane Cody
"I just wanted to say thank you for organising the 2007 'Around the Bay in a Day' which I took part in yesterday.
In particular, one of the marshals helped me replace a punctured tube just after the first crossing of the West Gate bridge and I wanted to express my gratitude to him for his patient and calming help. His generous attitude and encouraging words were very much appreciated. Its great to participate in such an event where the calibre of volunteers is so high."
Emilie Rochecouste
From Sydney
"I have just returned to Sydney having completed my first circumnavigation of Port Phillip Bay courtesy of your incredibly well organised event.
I am writing to compliment you all for the effort which must have gone in to make it a very memorable day visiting some new parts of the fine city of Melbourne.
Thank you again"
Andy Harding
From Western Australia
"As a newcomer from WA I can say it is one of the most satisfying events I have completed. The physical challenge in those conditions was right up there and the Macquarie group I trained and participated with were exceptional.
A top day that we should encourage more colleagues to take part in."
Ian Harrison
From New Zealand
"My partner and I just returned to New Zealand after doing the 250km ride Around the Bays. We both loved it so much and want to commend you on a fabulously organised ride. We do many rides here in New Zealand and cannot believe how well run this event was. We will be back! Thank you to everyone involved in what must have been a massive organisational nightmare.
Kindest regards and thank you again"
Kerrie Cole and Paul Wainhouse
Some Constructive Feedback
"Firstly thanks for organising a great ride, I enjoyed it so much.
Just a bit of constructive criticism though is that all the people I rode with in our team thought that the directional signs could have been a bit more visible. Maybe the bright fluoro colours could have been used. I for one did miss a couple of turns because quite often you have your head down and unless the signs are bright you can easily miss them.
Marshalls were great
Drink Station people were great
Ferry was great
Lunch was great
Finish was great
All in all a fantastic Day
Thanks again"
