Pamela and Eve met in 2002 - and they're still cycling together!
I met my friend Eve on the Great NSW Bike Ride in 2002 - we travelled on the same bus from Melbourne but did not meet until the second day.
I was sitting in the gutter feeding saltanas to the birds and she asked me where the ATM was. It turned out that she was originally from New Zealand and living and working as a Vet in Ballarat.
We agreed to ride together "until we got sick of each other".
Well it turned out that we didnt get sick of each other at all. We did the Great Tasmanian Bike Ride together then eventually went to Europe together in 2003 and spent three months riding in France, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, Holland, England, Scotland and Ireland. We camped all the way and had a fabulous time - there were a few tears along the way but luckily we had separate tents which helped.
We are still very good friends - she still lives in Ballarat and we catch up when ever we can to ride together. I am forever grateful that I went on that bike ride otherwise I probably would not have had that wonderful adventure.
