7. Route Support
About this page
Medical, mechanical and moral support are there for all riders on the route.
Sag Wagons
Sag Wagons operate all day on both the west (Melbourne to Queenscliff) and east (Melbourne to Sorrento) sides of Port Phillip Bay plus there is a Sag Wagon dedicated to the 50km ride. Sag Wagons are provided to support riders who have broken down or are unable to continue riding. Please be aware that you may have to wait long periods of time for the Sag Wagon to assist you.
To access the Sag Wagon, you should proceed to an official Rest Area and notify marshals, or if you are on the road, turn your bike upside down in a prominent but safe position and wait off the road.
For those last minute tweaks or repairs you may have, SRAM is our official ride mechanical support and will be located at Alexandra Gardens on Saturday and Sunday, Geelong and Frankston Rest Areas and at Sorrento and Queenscliff ferry terminals.
Riding Marshals
Volunteer riding marshals ride from Sorrento to Melbourne. They are there to provide encouragement and support to less experienced riders and to provide basic mechanical assistance (eg puncture repairs). They are identifiable by bright orange flags on their bikes.
Marshals
Marshals are located throughout the route, to provide directions and assistance at busy intersections, roundabouts and similar locations.
Mechanical Support
Two mobile mechanic vehicles are on the course throughout the day. In addition, mechanical support is provided at the following Rest Areas:
- Frankston Pier (Frankston)
- Sorrento Pier (Sorento)
- Queenscliff (Princes Park)
- Geelong (Rippleside Park)
Police
Victoria Police provide a visible presence on the day. Police Members are deployed throughout the route to assist and monitor event participants and other road users.
First Aid
Red Cross are the official First Aid providers for the event and are located at all major Rest Areas. Additional medical support is provided as part of the Emergency Management Plan.
Private Support Vehicles
The “Ultimate Cycling Experience” is our number one priority for riders. Having more vehicles on the road increases the congestion and unfavourable riding conditions. The aim of the Ride is to complete the challenge without additional assistance. We believe we provide the necessary support for riders to achieve this. Please assist by keeping private support vehicles off the route.
