Welcome to the Melbourne Cycling Festival - sponsored by Honan Insurance Brokers - a celebration of all things cycling, from racing to commuting and recreation and all things in between!

Three of Victoria's icon cycling events come together to create a major weekend of cycling-centric activity in Melbourne in October.

The organisers - Bicycle Victoria in partnership with the City of Melbourne have created a major weekend of cycling. This massive celebration brings together the National Ride to Work Day and the popular Around the Bay in a Day to create a cycling precinct in the heart of Melbourne and also features the GO Bike Expo - sponsored by Honan Insurance Brokers and a range of fun activities alongside the competitive and participation cycling events. In addition to these fantastic events the Jayco Herald Sun Tour final stage will be held on Saturday 18 October.

The festival will mix challenge rides, community based participation, building public profile and engagement in bicycle riding, extending beyond ride participants a basis in behaviour change methodology, and extensive media coverage.

 

Now in its second year the National Ride to Work Day aims to encourage first time riders and to develop cycle-friendly workplaces supported by policy and facilities.

On October 15 2008 it is expected that 125,000 people will ride to work across Australia. You could be one of them! Federation Square is the central event location with lots of people gathering for breakfast, activities and entertainment, which includes a diverse main stage program, cooking demonstrations, radio personality MC; a healthy breakfast; hair repair station; massage; bike security engravings; bike parking and cycle Angels along main route. It will be awesome!

 

The 2008 Around the Bay in a Day® starts and finishes in Alexandra Gardens (except the 100km ride, which starts in Sorrento), with the introduction of the 80km School Challenge, designed for secondary school groups. Come and be part of, Australia's biggest and best mass participation one day ride. On Sunday more than 15,500 riders take on the challenge of riding in the Around the Bay in a Day. And when riders get off their bikes at the finish they can enjoy the Festival atmosphere including stage and entertainment, public bar, vendors and massage services and a great expo.

 

The weekend kicks off with the opening of GO Bike - sponsored by Honan Insurance Brokers, an expo showcasing the world of cycling and healthy lifestyle. The Go Bike Expo will be held from Friday 17 October to Sunday 19 October. Come join us with a "Carbo Load" public feast on Friday night to open the Go Bike Expo; featuring live music; Demonstrations such as Bike Trials (acrobatic and skills feats!), BMX schools coaching, bicycle manufacturers offering the latest in equipment plus maintenance, a test ride program for all ages. A perfect family friendly entertainment program, featuring Big Screen viewing to relax and recuperate after the Ride finish.
