Welcome to the Melbourne Cycling Festival - a celebration of all things cycling, from racing to commuting and recreation and all things in between!
Bicycle Victoria in partnership with the City of Melbourne has created a major week of cycling which was held from 15 - 17 October, 2010. This massive celebration bought together National Ride to Work Day on Wednesday 13 October 2010, and Around the Bay in a Day® to create a cycling precinct in the heart of Melbourne with the GO Bike Expo
The festival incorporated a mix of challenge rides and community based participation, whilst building public profile and engagement in bike riding.
Around the Bay in a Day® 2010 on Sunday 17 October begins at the iconic Alexandra Gardens in the heart of Melbourne. With several ride distances and routes available, over 15,500 ride
rs took part in the challenge in 2009.
On October 13 2009, an estimated field of over 125,000 people were involved in National Ride to Work Day 2009 across Australia. The event encourages first time riders and the development of cycle-friendly workplaces supported by policy and facilities. Federation Square is the central location for the community event, with people gathering for breakfast, activities and entertainment - including a diverse main stage program, radio personality MC, a healthy breakfast, hair repair station, massage, bike security engravings, bike parking and Cycle Angels along the main routes.
The GO Bike Expo® - showcases all things in the world
of cycling. The Go Bike Expo® will be held from Friday 15 October to Sunday 17 October 2010. Friday night featured the popular "Carbo Load" public feast, including live music and Demonstrations such as Bike trails (acrobatic and skills feats!) - a perfect family friendly entertainment program. Highlighted by the TREK test bike ride where everyone will have the opportunity to take TREK's newest bikes for a test ride around Alexandra Gardens and surrounding streets. The Melbourne Cycling Festival is pleased at the exciting new component of this cycling festival, known as Twilight Criterium. The men and womens' courses wil be located at Alexandra Gardens along Boathouse Drive and around the rowing sheds. The Twilight Criterium in it's second year in 2010 will introduced eager cyclists and spectators to a new and exciting form of cycling to kick off the weekend!
