6. 210km Queenscliff Return (no ferry) Ride Details

All you need to know about the ride that takes you around the western side of Port Phillip Bay.

Route - 210km  M-Q-M

  • The Ride takes you around the western side of Port Phillip Bay, commencing at Alexandra Gardens in the City of Melbourne (Melway ref: 2F J7), then heading in a anti-clockwise direction to Queenscliff, and finishing back at Alexandra Gardens in Melbourne, following a slightly different route.

Code of Conduct

Riders are responsible for following all road rules and are expected to share the road with other users.  Riders must adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times.

Start Location and Time

Alexandra Gardens at the intersection of the Swan Street Bridge and Alexandra Avenue at 6.00am.  Please note that all riders are legally required to have both front and back lights as it will be dark when you start.

Westgate Bridge Opening and Closing Times

For riders heading to Queenscliff the Westgate Bridge opens at 6.00am and closes at 7.30am.

For riders heading back into Melbourne the Westgate Bridge closes at 5.45pm. If you do not reach the bridge by this time, you will need to take the alternative route (shown in teal on the Google Map).

Rest Areas

Rest Areas are located at approximately every 25km along the Ride in the following locations:

  • Alexandra Gardens (Melway 2F J7)#
  • Melbourne Water Farm, Werribee (Melway 205 11)
  • BP Service Centre, Little River (Melway Page 11 D12)
  • Rippleside Park, Geelong (Melway 442 A10)#
  • Leopold Hall, Leopold (Melway 468 G3)
  • Queenscliff Ferry Terminal, Queenscliff (Melway 487 B11)#
  • Caltex Station, Leopold (Melway 468 G3)
  • Rippleside Park, Geelong (Melway 442 A10)#
  • BP Service Centre, Little River (Melway Page 11 D12)
  • Kelly Park, Werribee (Melway 205 K8) 
  • Alexandra Gardens (Melway 2F J7)#

Note: # Red Cross First Aid Posts will be set up at these rest areas.

We will provide you with access to water at the rest stop areas.  There are opportunities to purchase drinks and food along the route in case you need additional nutrition. 

Bib Information

  • Bibs MUST be visible and worn at all times during the ride. 
  • Each rider will be given two bibs - one to be worn high on your chest and one to be worn on your back. 
  • The front bib has a tear off section that should be redeemed for lunch. You will not receive lunch without your bib information.
  • You must complete the emergency information on the back of your bibs.
  • You will also be identified for photos by your bib, so it is important that it is clearly visible.

Lunch

Lunch will be supplied at Princes Park in Queenscliff.  You must be able to provide the tear off section from your bib in order to receive your lunch.

Other Information

  • Riders heading toward Queenscliff will need to turn right at the intersection of Bay Street and Graham Street.
  • Sag Wagons will be operating all day to provide support for riders who have mechanical problems or are unable to continue riding.  They will offer to take you to the nearest railway station to enable you to organise transport home or the nearest rest area.  
  • Marshals are located throughout the route to provide directions and assistance at busy intersections, roundabouts and similar locations.
  • Red Cross are the official First Aid providers and will be located at all the major Rest Areas. 

Reporting Incidents

Report all incidents to the nearest marshal including hazards (potential or otherwise) or accidents.  If there is an emergency on the route, call either of the emergency numbers on the back of your bibs which are:

PLEASE NOTE:

  • We ask all riders to go to the official start site located at Alexandra Gardens.
  • Any riders who gather at the base of the Westgate Bridge on ramp will be stopped and have their bibs checked.
  • Riders will not be allowed to go over the Westgate Bridge earlier than their selected Ride distance starting time and will be held back.
  • It is illegal to ride on the Westgate Bridge prior to it being officially opened by event marshals.  Fines apply.
  • It is illegal to stop on the Westgate Bridge at any time. Fines apply.
  • You should be prepared for any type of weather conditions on the day.   
  • For the 250km and 210km Ride Options – the Rider must be aged 15 years or older on the day of the Ride.
