5. Altona Beach Break

About this page

Take a break at the halfway point of the 50km Ride and treat yourself to the festivities of the Altona Beach Break in Hobsons Bay.

Hobsons Bay Council presents the "Altona Beach Break" featuring live music, roving performers and refreshments.

If riding 50km sounds like its a bit too much, but riding 25km followed by coffee and refreshments before continuing on sounds better, then join us in Altona.

The Altona Beach Break provides the perfect halfway mark if you are riding the 50km ride option. 50 km riders can take time out in Altona at the Altona Beach Break. Located at Logan Reserve, right across the road from the beach, the Altona Beach Break provides the opportunity to relax in the shade of massive Moreton Bay fig trees with entertainment and refreshments at hand, while you regroup for the ride back into the city.

HOBSONS BAY AND CYCLING

Hobsons Bay is a fascinating cycling destination year

round.  This part of Melbourne’s west is a surprise to many visitors with its maritime history, coastal wetlands and extensive city and bay views.  Explore the Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail, a sealed and mainly flat shared trail, suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.  The trail passes through large tracts of parkland (including Altona Coastal Park and Cheetham Wetlands), the maritime precinct of Williamstown, and the beach and foreshore areas of Williamstown and Altona.

To help navigate the Coastal Trail, Hobsons Bay City Council has installed a series of trail markers and maps. Based on a nautical theme and constructed from recycled timbers the panels on the markers tell stories of the natural and cultural history of the area.
