Media Centre Teams - 2009 Great Escapade

About this page

BYKFM and The Good Oil are essential information sources.

Media Centre

Media Centre brings Ride participants up-to-date with important information, as well as keeping a vibrant mood within the campsite. The Media Centre produces a radio station (BYKFM) and a newspaper (The Good Oil). Journalists, disc jockeys, riding enthusiasts and creative minds are needed to run the Media Centre. Experience is handy, but not essential, as enthusiasm is the key here!

BYKFM

BYKFM is an important source of information for Ride Particpants.  It is a great place for those wanting to learn about running a Radio Station and those who want to practice speaking to an audience. Selecting music that suits those on the Ride is an important part of this role. Hours for this Team are 6:00am - 9:00am and 12:00 noon - 11:00pm, so Team members are rostered onto rotating shifts.

The Good Oil

The daily newspaper is a much loved item at Dinner and is often kept by Riders as a souvenir. This Team can prepare much of the paper before the Ride - but they still get to go out and about to interview Riders and Volunteers for their stories. The Good Oil is an essential communication tool during the Ride and includes the latest information for everyone on site. Skills in writing, editing, taking great photos and managing the paper as a daily project, are required.  There can be bust afternoons printing and late nights preparing the final edition of the paper.
