Campsite Set-Up, Campsite Close, Campsite Services, Eco and Luggage Teams

Campsite Set-up

This team sets up the campsite, puts up directional signage and flags, positions campsite facilities and directs vehicles, local traders and riders to the appropriate areas. A quick pack-down of equipment is done during the evenings. The Campsite Team is the first team at the next campsite (departure is at 6:00am), so early morning starts are common. A rostering system is implemented to share around the morning and afternoon shifts. It’s the best team for Volunteers that are flexible, imaginative and love walkie-talkies!

Campsite Close

This small Team is responsible for making sure that the campsite is left in better condition than which it was found. Volunteers in this Team have late starts and are last to leave the campsite each day.

Campsite Services

This is a small team on standby for any emergencies that need urgent fixing. The Team's focus is on the supply of water and power to the campsite facilities and the disposal of wastewater. They are commonly seen helping to set up showers and toilets, ensuring generators are supplying power where necessary and keeping an eye on water supplies. Fit, lateral-minded thinkers, with some handy skills and experience are great for this Team. The Campsite Services Team will act as a back-up Team for the Campsite Team. Work occurs fairly constantly throughout the day, on an ‘as needed’ basis, so being flexible with time is important.

Eco

This Team makes sure we leave the campsites clean, ensuring that locals are happy and will want the Ride to return. The Eco team distributes garbage bags and bins around campsite, supervises and encourages participants to recycle and clean up their own area, and does a final sweep of the campsite when everyone has hit the road. This Team spends most of their time around the Catering and Café area. Working time is variable, but generally settles around the breakfast and dinner serving times. The Team is suitable for those who want to go at their own pace.

Luggage

Rider's luggage is transported between campsites on semi-trailers. The Luggage Team oversees the loading and unloading of these trucks. The aim is to limit the lifting required, as Riders are responsible for loading and unloading their own bags. The Luggage Team supports the process, keeping the bag piles compact and protecting the bags with plastic if it rains. They also assist Riders who are having difficulty finding their bag. Those with a firm voice, sensible decision-making skills and the ability to navigate the truck from site to site, are perfect for this Team. Working hours occur during the morning and early afternoon.
