About this page
Find out what's offered on the Campsite each night of the 2009 Great Escapade
Home Sweet Home
Check out the movies of life on the Campsite, Entertainment on the Ride and the Cafe de Canvas. The movies are large, but worth a look - particularly if you haven't been on a Ride before. Click on the links in the panel on the right of this page.
All 2009 Great Escapade Campsites are Smoke Free.
On the Ride
We will work hard to have each campsite ready for you before 12.00 noon. However, we do need to ensure everything is safe before we let people on site. If you arrive early please be patient and respect the Volunteers' directions.
Breakfast
Fuel your motor for the day's ride. This is the most important meal of the day. Cereals, porridge, fruit, bread and spreads, juice are on offer each morning. You can make a sandwich and gather some fruit to take with you on the road. As part of the breakfast routine do some stretches and drink more water than you normally would at breakfast.
Lunch
Lunches are usually served midway or in the first part of the day's ride. This allows you to collect it and ride on, or stop and top up your energy levels. There may be stalls and shops along the way to get snacks for morning and afternoon tea. Don't hurry to the lunch spot. If you get there too early lunch just won't be there!
Dinner
Bring your eating utensils and restock your body with a great tasting hot meal. Daily menus are printed in The Good Oil.
Dishwashing
Keep your eating utensils clean with a visit to the wash up tables. It is do-it-yourself style. We supply the detergent, you supply the dish brush. We recommend you air dry your dishes. It's a great place to meet new, clean friends.
Tea, Coffee and Milo
These are supplied to you as part of your Ride Entry. So help yourself to a hot drink and relax in the Cafe de Canvas.
Cafe de Canvas
Need to unwind after a hard day in the saddle? The Cafe is the only licensed area on the campsite. Pull up a chair and refresh yourself with a beer, wine or soft drink. Bar snacks are also available. There's a small levy on your first glass: refills of your glass are cheaper. Cafe de Canvas is smoke free and eco-friendly.
On-site vendors
Services provided by vendors include food, drinks, photographic services and mechanical services. Community groups set up food stalls on site or in town.
Ride-In Movie
Movies will be shown every night at dusk, weather permitting and providing it gets dark enough before bedtime.
Eco Team
Help the hardworking Eco Team by making sure all your rubbish gets into a bin. Help the environment by separating your rubbish into a recycling bin.
Hot Showers
Hot, clean, comfortable and private showers are waiting to help you freshen up before you hit town, the sack or the road. Keep showers brief to conserve water.
Toilets
Always available on site. Mobile toilet trucks are located around the campsite. Do not brush your teeth in the toilets.
First aid clinic
Basic first aid treatment will be available and more complicated matters can be referred to local facilities. Prescription medication cannot be provided by first aid staff. For existing medical conditions and injuries please ensure that you bring any medication and supplies that you will need.
Information Tent
The Happy Helpers Team will keep you informed, point you in the right direction, look after Lost and Found - all with a big, beaming smile. Next door, the sales tent offers a huge range of Ride Gear and Information on other Great Rides.
Entertainment - Around every corner
Music, dance, comedians and circus acts. If riding your bike isn't enough fun then this will cap off the day! Check out the Entertainment Movie - download from the panel on the right.
