About this page
Answers to questions about the Volunteer Live Easy Tents
What's it all about?
Volunteers who apply early and are accepted for one of the multi-day Rides, will be offered the Volunteer Live Easy Tent Bonus.
This means that Bicycle Victoria will provide a 2-person dome tent for Volunteers to share and it will be put up and taken down each day!
How do Volunteers apply for the Volunteer Live Easy Tent Bonus?
It's easy, just complete the Volunteer Live Easy Tent Section where you apply.
What are the benefits?
The reason that Bicycle Victoria is offering the Volunteer Live Easy Tent Bonus is to help Volunteers in the following ways:
- Save about 1 hour each day, so Volunteers can have more fun!
- Save a few kilos in Volunteers' luggage - helping to keep each bag under 20kg
- Save Volunteers' time as they won't have to hunt for a camping spot
- Save Volunteers, who don't own a tent, from having to purchase one
Early Application Dates
2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride® - 31 July 2008.
2009 Great Escapade Bike Ride™ - we will advise when applications open.
Which Volunteers get offered the Live Easy Tent Bonus?
Both Riding Volunteers and Full Time Volunteers are eligible for the Live Easy Tent Bonus - but they must apply before the Early Application Date (as above) and must be accepted on the Ride.
Volunteers who apply after the Early Application date will not be eligible for the Volunteer Live Easy Tent Bonus and will need to bring their own tent.
Do all Volunteers have to stay in the Volunteer Live Easy Tents?
No. Volunteers are able to say "no" to this option on their Volunteer Application Forms and bring their own tent instead.
Do Volunteers share the Volunteer Live Easy Tents?
Yes, each tent is a 2-person dome tent that will fit 2 people and baggage comfortably.
There are 3 options for a Tent Buddy, Volunteers can:
- Nominate a Registered Rider or Riding Volunteer on their Volunteer Application Form and share the tent with the Rider or Riding Volunteer.
- Nominate another Volunteer on their Volunteer Application Form and share the tent with a Volunteer.
- Leave the nomination section blank and Bicycle Victoria will allocate a Tent Buddy. Where possible, the Tent Buddy will be of the same gender, similar age and in the same Volunteer Team.
When will Volunteers know their Tent Buddy?
Bicycle Victoria will notify Volunteers of their Tent Buddy in the following months:
2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride® - October 2008
2009 Great Escapade Bike Ride™ - January 2009
Does the Live Easy Tent come with a sleeping gear?
No, Volunteers will need to bring their own sleeping mat and sleeping bag.
Who will put up and take down the tents?
We will have a designated team of Volunteers to manage the Volunteer Live Easy Tents. The team will work hard to make sure that the Volunteer Tents are taken down, transported and put up again, in a timely manner.
However, the Tents may not all be put up by the time Volunteers arrive at the afternoon Campsite. Volunteers will need to plan their day with this possibility in mind. Volunteers who would prefer for their tent to be put up quickly, should consider bringing their own tent, or helping the contracted team by putting up their tent upon arrival at the afternoon Campsite.
When will the Volunteer Live Easy Tents be available?
The Volunteer Live Easy Tents will be put up on the Friday night before the Ride begins, at the first night's Campsite.
Those wanting to arrive before the start of the Ride, will need to organise their own accommodation for that night.
