Find out who our volunteers are, and why you should join them.
Volunteers move mountains. They can shift 150 tonnes of luggage, hand out 7000 blueberry muffins in a matter of hours and ensure that 8000 cyclists float on water by controlling our fleet of ferries - and all that by lunch. Money could not buy this enthusiasm, effort and patience. There is a place on the team for you. Would you like to join us?
Check out the Volunteer Movie to see what it's all about. It's a large file, but worth a look. The link is in the right hand panel of this page. Many say volunteering is more satisfying and enjoyable than riding. Come and enjoy the thanks and applause from the riders, the strong sense of accomplishment and the comradeship with your team mates. Volunteering on a Great Ride is about new friends and adventure.
You don't have to be a bike rider to be a Volunteer - just keen to contribute to cycling and willing to have a great time. You could be:
- A quiet achiever
- A thrill seeker
- A socialite
- A 'can do' person
- A cyclist who has great ideas about how to contribute to our Great Rides
- A friend or partner of a person going on a Great Ride.
Why should I Volunteer?
- Opportunities to develop life-long friendships
- Meet lots of people and learn new skills
- Access to free training courses
- Credit for university placements
- Experience and contacts for future employment in the events industry.
Riders are encouraged to help Bicycle Victoria actively recruit Volunteers and help the Volunteers during the Ride. Volunteers receive endless praise and thanks during and after the Ride and they deserve it.
Apply by 31 July 2008 for the Great Victorian Bike Ride and we will take care of your sleeping arrangements.
Volunteers who register for the 2008 Great Victorian Bike Ride before 31 August 2008 will be offered the Volunteer Live Easy Tent to share. This means that we will provide a 2 person dome tent for these Volunteers to share with another Volunteer - and it will be put up and taken down. If Volunteers were nominated by a registered Rider, they are able to share the tent with that Rider in the Volunteer Camping area.
Have you ever imagined ...
- Becoming the voice of breakfast radio?
- Pulling beers at the local pub?
- Being the caretaker of a travelling city?
- Helping hundreds of people?
- Guiding people down the right road?
These opportunities and more await you. Seize the day.
