What is it?

Bupa Around the Bay enables all bike riders to participate in Australia’s largest single day bike ride and meet the challenge of riding around a physical landmark. Last year there were over 16,500 people who took part and more than 550 people who donated their time to help make the event a success.

There are 11 different ride distances ranging from 50km up to 250km that cater to riders of all abilities.

The ride takes place all around Port Phillip Bay, with major sites at Alexandra Gardens, Altona, Rippleside Park Geelong, Queenscliff, Sorrento and Mordialloc.

Why should I volunteer?

With almost 30 years of experience hosting some of Australia’s most iconic mass participation events Bicycle Network Victoria has the most sophisticated and supportive event volunteer programs in the country.

With over 600 roles available, we have something that caters to people from all different walks of life, ages, skills interests and backgrounds. Whichever role you choose you will be supported by an experienced Team Leader and the Events team.

What can I expect in the Lead up?

When you choose a role you will receive an email acknowledging your registration.

Some time after that we will send you a letter in the mail welcoming you and providing some more detailed information related to volunteering on the event.

After August 1 we will be confirming team roles and allocations by mail. If you apply after this date you will be informed of your allocation in a timely fashion.

You will hear from your Team Leader about a month before the event and they will provide you with specific information related to your role and be able to answer any questions that you have.

In addition to this you will receive regular updates via email from the Events Team that will provide you with more information on how the event is shaping up.

What can I expect on the day?

On the day you will report to your designated location and check in with your team leader. They will provide you with your uniform and equipment and delegate you to a task. From there it is up to you to make sure that you get the most out of your experience by interaction with the riders, spectators and other volunteers.

We strongly recommend that you ensure that you have appropriate clothing including warm clothes wet weather gear and sunscreen, as well as a charged mobile phone, and any personal supplies that you may need like snacks and drinks.
