RACV locks up Great Vic
31 May 2011. RACV will continue its naming rights sponsorship of the Great Victorian Bike Ride for the next three years, further boosting the profile of the renowned event.
The multi-year deal cements the reputation of the event as one of the biggest and longest running bike rides in the world.
The popular ride, promoted as "a week in another world", comprises a nine day bike riding and camping holiday through some of Victoria's most beautiful communities.
Each year some 5000 riders explore the State's attractive towns and landscapes, with at least 1000 riders in school groups.
This year the ride starts in Swan Hill on 26 November, travelling 590 kilometres through Kerang, Barham, Echuca, Boort, Wedderburn, Maryborough and finishing in Castlemaine on 4 December.
RACV’s General Manager of Member & Motoring Services, Gordon Oakley said RACV was delighted to continue its association with this iconic event for a further three years.
“It’s also an important economic contributor to the regional towns along the route by providing a welcome boost to tourism in these areas,” he said.
“Last year’s event was a great success for all involved and this year is expected to be even better with some extra options, including two three-day rides and two, one-day rides.
Mr Oakley said RACV’s involvement with this event was an extension to existing collaboration with Bicycle Network Victoria on the annual Ride to Work and Ride2School days, the RACV Bike Assist product, and advocacy on cycling in general.

“The iconic RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride is a key part of many Victorian’s lives and RACV’s partnership will ensure it continues to offer the cyclists an unforgettable experience,” he said.
RACV will be offering its bike riding members special offers and benefits during the event.
