First to sign up! Russell and Marion Hicks

Russell and Marion Hicks were the first people to sign up on the 2009 Great Escapade and have taken advantage of the free bike transport from the eastern states.

Russell and Marion aren’t new to the Great Rides – they have previously completed three Great Victorian Bike Rides, a Tassie Ride, Around the Bay in a Day and were also participants on the first Great Escapade to visit Western Australia in 2006. After ‘loving the Western Australian Ride’ in 2006, they were quick to join the 2009 ride and head back to the West.

'The scenery, the riding challenge and the fitness gained’ are what draw Russell and Marion back. They are going to ride the event together but are encouraging some friends from the Whitehorse Cycling Club to join the fun.

While Russell cites 'riding for several consecutive days over a moderate distance' as a challenge to overcome, the experience of 'riding through the beautiful scenery and countryside on a bike' is what he is looking forward to. 'It’s better than driving as you see more and are part of the landscape.'

Russell and Marion can enjoy riding their bikes through Spring and Summer preparing for the event and will also have the added benefit of saving $210 by having their bikes transported to the start and from the finish for free – now that’s an enjoyable start to a holiday!

You too can have your bike transported to and from the Ride for free if you sign up for the 2009 Great Escapade before 31 October 2008. (Deposit of only $200 required to secure offer.)
