Stimulus Funding: SA

The Federal Government is rolling out its $40M National Bike Paths Projects fund.

SA gets $3M bike boost

21 October 2009. Thirty-five cycling infrastructure projects in South Australia will get $3M from the $40 million National Bike Paths Projects fund.

Total investment will be $5.7 million, with the remainder of the funding provided by the South Australian Government and local councils.

The Federal Government Government is funding more than 170 projects around Australia, supporting more than 1,900 jobs and traineeships.

The projects are in Adelaide, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, the Barossa and the Lower Lakes.

Read the full list of projects below.

Many of the projects are high priority and will make a significant contribution to getting more people riding more often. The relevance of some projects is less certain, and whether they will boost rider numbers and justify the investment is open to question.

As funding for bike infrastructure is so scarce, it is critical that the resources are spent wisely.

We will need the help of riders familiar with SA to help us evaluate the likely effectiveness of these grants. This feedback will be used to help governments and councils set priorities for future investment.

A survey will be set up soon to take your comments.
