Bicycle Network Victoria: Parkiteer bike cages
FAQ's
All your Parkiteer questions answered!
Can I access more than one Parkiteer bike cage?
Yes. Your Parkiteer card will allow you access to any cage on the network, metropolitan or regional.
Do I have to be a Bicycle Network Victoria member to use a Parkiteer cage?
No, this is open to anyone.
Do I have to ride a bike? Can I park my scooter/motorbike in there?
Parkiteer bike cages are for bicycles only. A bicycle may have an electric or petrol powered motor attached, provided the motor's maximum power does not exceed 200 watts. For a definition of what constitutes a bicycle, click here.
Do I have to pay anything to use this system?
A $50 bond is required, but as long as you are a sensible, reasonable and responsible Parkiteer user then you will get this back if you decide to leave us. Should you need a replacement access card, one will be sent to you at a cost of $10.
What if I register as a member but I am not using it as often as I first thought?
There are already lengthy waiting lists for individual bike lockers at many train stations, so it is important that the cage is used as much as possible. If, for whatever reason, it is apparent that you are persistently under-utilizing the facility, Bicycle Network Victoria may ask you to give someone on the waiting list an opportunity to take your place.
What if I arrive at the Parkiteer cage and discover that I have left my access card at home?
This cutting edge technology can be operated remotely. Listed on the Parkiteer enclosure is a phone number that you can call and identify yourself in order to get the cage unlocked.
I'm swiping my card and the door isn't opening!! What do I do??
First, think back and be sure that you have called up and activated your card. Once you are convinced of this fact, try the door again. The door to the cage is very heavy, and the security system that controls the lock will not swing the door open when the card is placed over the card reader. Therefore, please follow these steps:
1. Place your access card on the card reader next to the door. Do not swipe it as you might a credit or eftpos card.
2. Once you hear that the lock has reacted to your card, grab the door handle and pull.
3. Please close the door after you, and ensure that it does not remain open for longer than 60 seconds.
How do I get a refund of my $50 bond?
See our
for more information.
Why should I become a Parkiteer instead of just locking my bike to the fence?
Employing world class security systems, Parkiteer bike cages ensure that your bike remains secure while you are out and about. The cages are also covered from inclement weather. Additionally, Parkiteer enclosures offer a potential social network, with up to 25 other people from your area using this secure and convenient facility.
What if a friend wants to use the cage while I’m not using it?
The Parkiteer system is only for the registered members' use. No responsibility will be taken for damages or loss caused by a breach of this rule. As there will be stickers to be attached to both your bike and helmet, no responsibility can be taken for confusion by other Parkiteers who may allow someone using your equipment into the facility, and any problems that may cause. It is in your interests not to facilitate entry of non-members otherwise your bike may be at risk.
What does Parkiteer mean?
The name literally means ‘Park it here'.
