Overview:

Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Melbourne Bike Share currently operates with approximately 50 stations and 600 bikes.

Alta Bicycle Share is responsible for all “on the ground” aspects of Melbourne Bike Share, including but not limited to: station and bike repair and maintenance, bicycle redistribution, station redeployment, helmet distribution and reporting on system and operational performance.

We are currently seeking a hands-on General Manager skilled at the art of management and passionate about the potential for bike share to transform Melbourne’s urban transportation landscape to lead all aspects of Melbourne Bike Share operations.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all aspects of Alta Bicycle Share Melbourne operations including bike and station maintenance, repair, and cleaning; bicycle redistribution; helmet distribution; customer service; and vendor and client relationships.

• Hire, train, schedule, and manage employees. Delegate tasks as needed.

• Manage accounting and payroll services contracts.

• Develop, execute, and share operational best practices.

• Identify and share opportunities for efficiency.

• Identify and address key strategic barriers and opportunities critical to the success of local operations.

• Forecast expenses, manage budgets.

• Respond to requests from RACV project officers and your manager(s).

• Ensure WorkSafe Victoria compliant workplace and practices.

• Ensure RACV contractual obligations are met or exceeded.

• Ensure reporting metrics are met, and where needed, improved.

• Ensure reporting is complete and timely delivered to project officers and managers.

• Ensure a positive relationship between Alta Bicycle Share and RACV project officers.

• Ensure overall success and future growth of Melbourne Bike Share.

Job Conditions:

• 50% normal office conditions

• 25% work outdoors, technical and non-technical

• 25% warehouse/shop environment

• Job may require frequent or prolonged standing, bicycling or driving

• Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week

• May require bending, stooping, lifting up to 25 kilograms

 Qualifications:

• College degree in business administration, engineering, transportation or related field required. Advanced degree a plus.

• 5+ years experience managing and prioritizing multiple conflicting demands of staff, contractors/vendors, budgets, and clients in a fast paced environment.

• Excellent organizational skills.

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills; technical skills a big plus.

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, knowledge of Quickbooks a plus.

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

• Intimate knowledge of Melbourne Metro area.

• Leadership skills – experience inspiring and motivating employees to successfully achieve operational goals.

• Interpersonal skills – maintain confidentiality; remain open to others' ideas; demonstrate willingness to try new things.

• Adaptability – enthusiastically adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

• Dependability - Follow instructions; respond to management direction; communicate frequently; solicit feedback to improve performance.

• Passion for bikes, efficiency, sustainability and revolution a plus!

• Sense of humor required.
