Bicycle Network Victoria: Bikes 'n' Bits
Is There A Cycling Community
Bike Business has asked the opinion of two of Melbournes retailers about their take on the notion of a Cycling Community
Robin Pearce
BSC Bikes
"We believe that a loose cycling community is alive and well but that it encompasses anyone and everyone who has ever got pleasure out of riding a bike. Whether as daily or occasional transport, the alternative form of exercise to the gym or accompanying the kids to the park, bikes are great and anyone who rides is part of a good thing. Does there need to be a community to help it grow, maybe not, maybe enjoyment is the key to a progressive future.
Our job is not to pigeon hole visitors to our stores but to demonstrate that bikes and riding comes in all shapes and sizes and that all aspects support each other and the strengthening of the whole."
Vincent Attree
St Kilda Cycles
“I believe that rather than there being a specific cycling community rather cycling is becoming a greater part of all communities. None of us need be labeled as riders or cyclists because that label does not take in to account our varied modern lives. What is important and what we witness at our store is that bikes and riding are increasing in popularity all the time and not just with a limited section of society but with a very diverse spread of people. It is important that the bike industry continues to cater for all tastes and desires so that anyone who wants to try riding can.”
Riders, do you know of a bike shop that needs talking about? If yes then please get in touch and let us know.
