28 November 2011. The Main Yarra Trail at Trennery Crescent near Dights Falls will be temporarily closed as construction gets underway on a retaining wall as part of the residential development in that area. This has been very late notice. If at all possible, the trail will be opened during non-construction hours. Speak to the City of Yarra on 9205 5724 about this possibility as it develops this week.
A detour along Trennery Crescent will be in place, and the closure is expected to take four weeks. Click here for a map of the detour.

Temporary closurse for path works in Fitzroy North
7 November 2011. The path in Linear Park between St. Georges Road and Albert Crescent in Fitzroy North will be closed for path upgrading for four weeks from today.
From the City of Yarra: "The path upgrade is part of the implementation of the Inner Circle Railway Linear Park Master Plan, which was adopted by Council in November 2006, following extensive community consultation.
The upgrade will involve replacing part of the existing narrow asphalt shared path with a 3m wide concrete path. The path alignment will follow the existing path, except that cyclists will be further encouraged to travel north up Apperley St to connect to the main east-west path, and the traffic lights at St Georges Road."
Details of the project here.
Detour at West Gate
18 October 2011. The path under Westgate Bridge will be detoured for the next few days while new bollards are being installed along the the length of the pedestrian and cycle pathway as part of the West Gate Bridge Strengthening Project.
The Westgate Bridge Strengthening Alliance have advised that the cycle and pedestrian path in Memorial Park under the West Gate Bridge will be detoured from 20 October to 23 November , 2011
To install the new bollards and ensure the safety of the local community and the safety of workers, a section of the park will be fenced off and an interim bicycle and pedestrian walkway will be laid down to ensure access into the area is minimally disrupted for the local community.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the area, detour route signage will be placed along the path. Bike riders are urged to take care and slow.
The bicycle and pedestrian path will be re-established on completion of the works.

William St northbound bike lane closed
City West Water will be replacing nearly four kilometres of water mains in William Street and Howard Street – between Flinders Street and Queensberry Street.
Due to the age of the mains, which are over 150 years old, their location in a busy city street and a number of bursts and leaks over
recent years, it has been decided that the pipes require replacement.
Northbound traffic lanes including the bicycle lane will be closed in progressive stages. Detours will be in place around the block via King St.
Water main works are scheduled to start between Bourke Street and Lonsdale Street on 15 August 2011 and take 3 weeks.
This total water main renewal project will take approximately 15 months to complete. We anticipate a completion date in late August 2012. Dates of progressive road closures can be seen on City West Water site.
Federation Trail fix starts
16 June 2011. A section of the crumbling Federation Trail will be closed for the next month while VicRoads undertakes remediation works between Leakes Road and Fitzgerald Road, Laverton North.
No specific detour route has been provided. The option of Fitzgerald's Road is risky because of the numbers of cars and trucks.
VicRoads has advised Federation Trail users to seek alternative routes/modes of transport.
A limited media release from VicRoads is summed up on Federation Trail page.
Moonee Ponds Creek Path closure at Mt Alexander Rd Bridge
14 June 2011 City of Moonee Valley have advised that the MPCT path at Mt Alexander Rd Bridge will be fully closed from 7am to 4pm for up to 4 days at the end of June for work adjacent to the path more details on the detour will be provided closer to the time. Maribyrnong River Trail Closures
18 May 2011. The Maribyrnong River Trail from Brimbank Park into the City remains closed between Brimbank Park and nearly down to the Canning Street Park.
Bicycle Network Victoria have been advised that this portion of the path is on Parks Victoria land and maintained by them. The Ranger in Charge of Maribyrnong Parklands has advised that an insurance claim was made following flood damage in March 2010. Subsequently while that was being processed, the floods of 2011 occurred and a re-assessment was required. Delays have resulted from the large number of insurance claims, and now there is a state-wide approach to the claim.
Given the popularity of the facility, Parks Victoria is keen to reopen the path as soon as possible. In the process of scoping long-term repair solutions, Parks Victoria will consider options for re-alignment or changes to current path construction to improve resilience to flood events.
Capital City Trail on South bank

Maribyrnong River Shared Path
6 April 2011 The Melbourne Water Alliance will be undertaking 2 lots of works on the banks of the Maribyrnong River just after Easter.
1. Concrete path repair and replacement works on the Maribyrnong River path. All affected areas of the path are between Dynon Rd and Footscray Rd on the Melbourne (east) side of the river. This work will be undertaken over the 2 days following Easter to minimise the impact to path users who use the path for commuting. The repairs follow previous bank rehabilitation work.
2. Commencing the week after Easter on May 2nd 12 weeks of river bank rehabilitation work will take place on the west bank of the Maribyrnong between Dynon Rd and Fisher Pde. The path will generally be kept open but cyclists may have to dismount. Please obey the signage and the directions of the Traffic Controllers. More details will be provided later as to specific locations of works. Melbourne Water's web site also provides some extra details.
Edinburgh Gardens detour
23 March 2011. The path through Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy has been detoured due the construction of a stormwater harvesting drain.
The detour adds 160 metres each way to the route but shorter alternatives were not suitable because of the risk of dogs off lead.
The re-constructed and widened path will be worth the wait when it opens in mid-year.
The project will harvest stormwater from the North Fitzroy main stormwater drain, providing a sustainable irrigation source for Edinburgh Gardens’ historic trees. The raingarden will also help to improve the health of the Merri Creek and Yarra River by filtering captured stormwater.
Alexandra Gardens and Birrarung Marr

· The river crossing from Green Gully Road to Brimbank is closed, as is the crossing from Garden Ave to Brimbank.
Warning: Access to the Maribyrnong River is limited as surface water, debris and silt build up on trails is a risk to visitors.
This area has seen multiple inundations from high water flows which have led to significant path surface damage and dangerous conditions.
Moonee Ponds Creek Trail Update
22 February 2011. Moonee Valley council via MooneeBUG have provided a revised notice (extended closure time) and detour map at path works at Nursery Bend near Strathmore Primary School. Refer: Improving Moonee Ponds Creek Trail. Works are expected to take from 21 February to end of May

We are advised by on site workers that the path will reopen on Thursday 17th.
Moomba Festival diversions
10 February 2011. Moomba festivities will require a number of diversions of popular city commuter routes later this month and during March. Be prepared.
Birrarung Marr
All of the Lower Terrace will be fenced off between Monday 28 February until Friday 11 March. Pedestrians and runners will be directed to walk/run along the riverbank on the lower pathway while cyclists will be directed via the bitumen pathway and Batman Ave. The same operation will take place during bump-out between Tuesday 15 March and Friday 18 March.
Alexandra Gardens
Alexandra Gardens will be fenced off for the duration of the event between Monday 28 February and Friday 18 March. However, cyclists will be able to cycle uninterrupted for most of this time along the pathway that runs parallel to Alexandra Ave between Boathouse Dve and St Kilda Rd.
The only times where there will be event activity will be during the installation and removal of fencing along the south side of Palm Lawn and Engineers Lawn which abutts the pathway.
The event organiser will also consider installing signage and a VMS (Variable Message Sign) on both approaches to Birrarung Marr to alert cyclists to the change of route ahead.
More details are expected to be available closer to the event.
Solway Bridge No way
2011 February 9. The floods of last weekend have destroyed the Solway Bridge despite some $150,000 of strengthening works carried out in 2008 by the City of Stonnington. A new bridge has been planned for some time as part of the Anniversary Trail and Markham Reserve path link to Warrigal Rd underpass BUT is in the budget for 2011/12 financial year - not soon enough! A new bridge of course will have to be on an improved alignment and with lesser gradients.
The detour route from the Anniversary Trail is to be via Ryburne Ave, Solway St, Glen Rd, Winton Rd and then back on the Gardiners Creek Trail either downstream to the City or upstream via the repaired path beside the golf course to the south bank of the Solway Bridge. SEE MAP
Riding upstream take the reverse of the above route if heading for the Anniversary Trail otherwise continue up to where the Solway Bridge used to be.
For more information, please contact the City of Boroondara on 9278 4444.
Maribyrnong River Works
8 February 2011. Moonee Valley BUG has passsed on this advice: Works are to be undertaken on the Maribyrnong Trail within the City of Maribyrnong which will commence next Monday 07 February and continue for approximately 1 week, subject to weather conditions. The works are dispersed in a number of locations. Generally pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to dismount, walk around the work zone, and return to the path to continue riding.
The exception to this arrangement is Site 3, on the northern side of the Stockbridge (on the western side of the river) where the southern concrete trail (from Footscray and Williamstown) meets the asphalt pathway leading up to the Stockbridge. Due to the constrained space in this location, the path will be closed for approximately 3 days from Tuesday 8th February, and pedestrians and cyclists are to be diverted via the Stockbridge, the existing shared path on the eastern side of river, Footscray Road shared path, Shepherd's Bridge, Napier Street, Maribyrnong Street to the Maribyrnong Trail. The trail closure will be kept to a minimum and opened up for traffic as soon as possible.
Please contact Stuart Hale, Open Space Coordinator, City of Maribyrnong on 0413-938 905 with any queries.

This shaft is to be established within the median strip of Wurundjeri Way. Whilst the pedestrian and cyclist paths over Charles Grimes Bridge will be closed, pedestrian and cycle path diversions will be put in place, and the aim has been to ensure that vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in this area remains accessible whilst these essential works are occurring. With this in mind, the MMSR team has implemented detour routes as shown in the December Newsletter at http://melbournemain.melbournewater.com.au/content/library/Newsletters/20110110_December_2010.

Most of the main is on the east side of the street so city bound commuters will not be seriously effected. By the time of the evening commute work will be shut down for the day.
Works will be conducted in temporary zones of approximately 60 metres at a time. Once pipeline renewal is complete in one zone, works will be moved to the next location down Chapel Street.
