Even though construction was not 100% complete, the apartments were filling up fast and already bikes were starting to clutter up the car park and other areas.

On-site visits and consultation with the building manager, John Beaney, resulted in the approval of
the proposal to install bike parking rails capable of parking 53 bikes. The utilisation of “empty”
space in the 2 levels of car park was crucial to providing the maximum number of bike parking spots.

All styles of bikes can now be parked in designated areas
Once all the construction for the apartments had been completed, the go ahead was given for the
installation of the rails. Installation was completed in early June 2002 and all spaces were eagerly
snapped up. And what do the residents think? “Well”, says John Beaney, “as the building manager I
only get to hear about things when they’ve gone wrong, and so far I haven’t heard a peep about the
bike rails. So I guess they’re going OK!”
With 250 apartments in the building just 50m from the Beach Rd bike path, Bicycle Network Victoria may be
returning for a second installation in the future!
