Kingston City Council

2009–2013 Kingston cycling and walking plan

16 Aug 2010 The Kingston Cycling and walking plan was developed after extensive community consultation and a review of the 2003–2008 Kingston Bicycle strategy. It comprises a set of principles objectives and priority areas for the Kingston cycling and walking network that reflect community interest and aspirations.

The plan provides a snapshot of the current status of the Kingston cycling and walking facility network and raises opportunity for enhancement of the network. The plan is in line with all state and federal policies and initiatives and has the following vision for cycling and walking facilities in Kingston by 2013, ‘A safe accessible and appropriate network of well connected cycling and walking facilities’.

BiXE 2009: City of Kingston

Kingston City Council has a BiXE 2009 of $4.63 which is an improvement on its BiXE 2008 of $3.11 and BiXE 2007 of $3.16. This year’s result means that Kingston is still below the Middle Councils' average BiXE 2009 of $5.95 and shows there is still room for improvement to meet the recommended $5 per resident. The 3 year BiXE average is $3.63.

Kingston City Council has opportunities to invest these funds into cycling infrastructure such as:
• Building the missing link along Bay Trail south of Charman Road
• Implementing the Route 33 Clearways along Beach Road
• Providing more on road bike lanes on Council-maintained roads, particularly around schools.
