Jason den Hollander Facilities Development - Transport Jason works across all bike-related transport issues with all levels of government, agencies, especially VicRoads, and all manner of private developers. Focused on positive outcome-driven solutions that expands and improves Melbourne's transport bicycle network, Jason takes great special pride in unlocking difficult problems and connecting routes together. PROFILE: A recent resident of Melbourne's inner north, Jason has taken to the lifestyle with gusto, often favouring stylish black sweaters while at the office. Jason is proud of his Dutch heritage and true to form had no faith in the performance of the National Dutch soccer team at this year's World Cup, and was ironically pleased when they lost in the final to Spain. Arlen Keen Recreation & Rail Trail Development Manager Arlen works with the Rail Trail portfolio helping to develop trails in rural and regional Victoria. Additionally, Arlen oversees the development of trails with a primarily recreational focus, in Melbourne and around Victoria. PROFILE: Hailing from Toronto Arlen has been in Melbourne since 2005. Arlen rides for fun and to get to work in the morning. Living in Melbourne allows for year round riding since it never drops below freezing - still a novelty compared to Canada. Usually good humoured about maple syrup jokes, Arlen reserves the right to crack it occasionally, which many of his colleagues have gotten used to by now. (Updated 27/8/10) |

Graeme Stone Facilities Project Officer Volunteer Graeme works closely with other members of the Facilities Development team with the aim of improving the quality and quantity of bicycle infrastructure. Graeme focuses on the technical aspects of shared path and on-road facilities while aiming to assist councils and other managers in finding best practice solutions for particular projects including materials and product selection. Graeme also monitors bicycle facility projects and ‘oils the wheels’ and suggests design improvements where necessary. A steady stream of these projects for ‘In the Loop’ is a regular task. Garry Brennan Public Affairs Garry guides the organisation through the challenge of shaping community and institutional attitudes, and especially government policy, so that the benefits of the bike revolution are fully realised for all Australians. PROFILE: His career has encompassed journalism, public relations, policy development and roles in the arts and the film industry. He is particularly keen to see bike transportation used to improve the amenity of towns and cities. (Updated 27/8/10) |

Mike Williamson Bike Futures Manager Mike manages the Bike Futures program - the work we do with local government and other stakeholders across Australasia to build the bike infrastructure needed to get More People Cycling More Often. Bike Futures encompasses the annual Bike Futures conference, the Super Tuesday bike count, the annual BiXE report, BikeScope, and any other projects related to local government. PROFILE: Mike has been a Bicycle Network Victoria member since 2001 when he moved to Melbourne. Born and bred in London, Mike is still pleasantly surprised most days by the quality of his bike commute from the north-eastern suburbs. He is as passionate about Arsenal Football Club and about gourmet coffee as he is about bikes! (Updated 6/5/09) |

Melissa Grimes Bike Futures Co-ordinator Mel’s role within the Facilities Development team focuses on working with local government to get More People Cycling More Often. She delivers BikeScope Consultation, PinPoint and RiderLog tools. PROFILE: Mel has previously worked in urban/ strategic and environmental planning. Mel is passionate about sustainable living and resilient communities. On a weekend, you’re likely to find Mel at a community garden, farmers market or working on a permaculture approach. Mel enjoys a cycle commute to work and riding for local trips; as ‘life’s better on a bike!’ (Updated: 27/5/11) |

Bart Sbeghen Project Manager - Healthy Suburbs / Good Design Guides Bart is managing the VicHealth project focused on building healthy and active new suburbs where bike riding and walking is easy, fun and popular. How can we ensure this happens consistently? PROFILE: Bart started work as an engineering geologist in Qld (dams & weirs). Sick of rocks he did a Masters of Env Science at Wollongong. After working in Canberra on Landcare (& other things) he had a stint in Washington D.C. helping manage a bike shop (City Bikes). Bart has recently returned to the Facilities Development Team after five years as a stay-at-home Dad with three girls. While at home he somehow completed a Post Grad Diploma in Urban Design at Melbourne Uni. His passion is public spaces. And that includes roads. (Updated 9/6/10) |

Kate Lansell Health New Suburbs/Good Design Guides Kate has spent the last two years studying her Masters in Urban Planning and researching the role of cycling in quality urban environments. Kate plays a pivotal role in the facitliles development team, researching best practice bicycle infrastructure design and talking to local councils about the way quality cycling facilities can encourage people to get out on their bikes. PROFILE: Kate's perfect weekend includes time in the garden, cooking for friends and getting in a bike ride. Living a car-free life, you will see Kate all around Melbourne whether it be riding to work, touring, racing, or rolling to the shops on her basket bike. The highlight of Kate's experience on a bike is her successful solo bike tour from Vancouver BC to San Francisco CA. |
