Meet the CEO and Senior Managers

Harry Barber

Chief Executive Officer

Harry has been a Bicycle Network Victoria member since 1978 and was employed in 1993 as Campaign Manager. He has been the senior executive of Bicycle Network Victoria since 1995. The organisation has grown significantly since its foundation:

  • The organisation now has 50 000 members and 80 000 friends
  • More than 10,000 people volunteer each year in Bicycle Network Victoria events, programs and behaviour change initiatives.
  • More than 60 people work full time at Bicycle Network Victoria.

Harry therefore relies heavily on Craig Richards the Chief Operating Officer. "Craig’s job at Bicycle Network Victoria is 'today' and I am responsible for 'tomorrow'," Harry says.

"The organisation has defined an exciting tomorrow," Harry says. "Bicycle Network Victoria’s vision is of healthy people in a healthy society. The aim of all our work is to prevent disease and promote the health of the community. To achieve this we use our skills, experience, credibility and influence to get More People Cycling More Often. Everything we do is intended to bring about measurable change at a societal level."

Profile

"I got back into bike riding at uni because the campus in Canberra was very big and I thought it was too far to walk. At the end of one year a friend and I rode back to Melbourne and I fell in love with riding a bike."

Harry fails many of the tests of a bike-mad person. He has only one bike with no carbon-fibre components. His bike computer reveals no amazing achievements of speed or distance. The main give away is that at home all the family bikes are parked in the living room.

Craig Richards

Chief Operating Officer

Craig loves being part of Bicycle Network Victoria because it's full of great people achieving amazing things. He strives to make sure every member of the team contributes as much as possible. Craig said, 'The members have given us a big responsibility and it's up to us all to live up to it.'

He previously worked in sports marketing with the Carlton Football Club and the Brisbane Broncos. He's now proud to work for an organisation that makes such a significant contribution. Craig said, 'I've been with Bicycle Network Victoria for over 4 years now. It's such a fast moving, smart organisation. It's a fantastic place to be.'

PROFILE:  Growing up Craig was well known for roaming the neighbourhood on a 3 speed purple dragster; complete with a radio between the handlebars. He can now be spotted amongst the families on the bike paths and riding to work, fascinated by the array of motivations of bike riders. His golf clubs are gathering dust in the garage.

Jason Robilliard

General Manager - Events

Tess Allaway

Organisational Development Manager

Tess joins the Organisational Development team, whose aim is to maintain a harmonious workplace. They ensure that systems work and people continue to perform well and develop. Her experience manging teenage international study programs has given her people skills to effectively communicate with the whole team.

PROFILE: Tess commutes to work each day on her beloved pink bike, and tries to incorporate cycling into her other love - travel. Her claim to fame is she survived the most dangerous road in the world, AKA “the Death Road” on a mountain bike in Bolivia. She says this experience makes the peak hour traffic on St Kilda Road feel a breeze to navigate.

Max Goonan

Corporate Relationships Manager

Max is responsible for building commercial and corporate relationships across the organisation.

Max comes from an extensive sports marketing and brand management background including Rugby World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Olympics and most recently the Australian Open.

Profile

Max is a fitness fiend who often spends the weekend savouring coffee as a momentary reward after an exhilarating ride.

Scott Whiffin

Facilities and Ride2School Manager

Scott's enjoying his first year as Ride2School Program Director and making a contribution to Bicycle Network Victoria's mission of getting more people cycling more often, especially with our kids who are the riders of tomorrow.

Scott has recently been appointed manager of the Facilities Development team. He's busy learning all that he can about this new area, but relishes the challenge and is doing a good job so far of not getting overwhelmed when the conversation turns to surface treatments, vibra-line, and other technical flim-flam.

PROFILE: Scott's a big fan of mixing his metaphors, which makes his presentations a wonder to behold, and this ensures that while his colleagues might not always be entertained, they are always kept on their toes. As he comes to Bicycle Network Victoria from the auto industry, Scott's pleased to only have to put in half an effort now that he only has to focus on two wheels instead of four.

Kath Struthers

Riders Manager

PROFILE: Kath has worked for Bicycle Network Victoria for three years and volunteered prior to that and her bike bug grows and grows. Kath loves the weekends, not because of the break from work but to get on the mountain bike and find great new trails all around Victoria! With a degree in Tourism Business Management and a passion to explore new places and cultures and meeting new people, she thrives on supporting people and ensuring they are receiving the benefits they want, the perfect fit for Bicycle Network Victoria membership.

Michael Moens

Finance Manager

Michael brings his two loves together: bikes and numbers, to head up the Finance Team. He enjoys having a part in almost all of Bicycle Network Victoria's activities and collaborating with people from all teams.

PROFILE: Michael has an array of riding styles - he uses his commuter bike to ride to work, takes his road bike for a spin on weekends, and also enjoys a spot of touring when he has the time. He recently completed an epic ride from Melbourne to Inverloch, along the coast to Batemans Bay then rode homeward bound via the mountains.
