Meet the Events team

All our Great Rides are the result of a handful of staff, working closely with dedicated Volunteers

Michael Russell

Event Manager

Michael brings a wealth of experience in the events world, albeit from Sydney. Diving into the events portfolio head first, Michael's professional philosophy stems from the old adage: "it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees." His colleagues appreciate his calm demeanour and go-get-'em attitude.

PROFILE: Michael started with Bicycle Network Victoria in early October 2010, just after St. Kilda's heartbreaking loss in the Grand Final. As a die-hard Saints fan, Michael took the loss hard, and the dismay he displayed in his first weeks made it hard for him to make a very good impression on his new colleagues. Fortunately, Michael soon re-discovered his joie-de-vivre and now a popular gunslinger at the lunch table. Inspiring the Bicycle Network Victoria, "cook-off" series was an early achievement. Losing the first-up pesto challenge hasn't dented Michael's enthusiasm for this new intra-office competition, much loved by many others now also.

Adam Renn

Event Coordinator

PROFILE: Adam works on both the Great Escapade and the Great Victorian Bike Ride, having started as a volunteer on both of these Rides.  After travelling around Australia and the world, Adam now enjoys the excitement of organising our Rides.  “There’s surely no better way to see this great country than on a bike!”

Darren Allen

Event Manager

Darren’s background as a project manager sets him in great stride as an Event Manager for Bicycle Network Victoria.
Darren is motivated by the excitement that surrounds an event, and has jumped on board the events team to manage the iconic Great Victorian bike ride.
Darren is a keen mountain bike rider on the weekends, balancing this also with spending quality time with his wife and daughter – he also speaks of his miniature pet sausage dog ‘Chilli’ and claims that watching him run down the street is the funniest thing you will ever see.

Mark Liddle

Event Coordinator

Mark is tasked with overseeing the volunteer program across all our events. It is his job to not only ensure that there are enough people to run the events but also that they are happy and well supported.

PROFILE:  Mark is a committed life long bike rider who has integrated bikes into his transportation, recreation and working life since his first wobbly pedal strokes at the age of eight.

Nicola Bowring

Event Coordinator

Nicola brings to Bicycle Network Victoria’s events team some fantastic outdoor events experience, having previously worked in the Mother’s Day Classic and Run Melbourne, she has also been a part of other iconic Melbourne events including the AFL Grand Final, Spring Racing Carnival and the Australian Open.
Nicola enjoys the sight of smiling participants and onlookers at an event, after months of hard work and preparation!
Nicola has recently brought her bike out of retirement and has booked it in for a service so she can get outside and get riding!
