27 August 2008. You only have one month to get yourself on the roll for the November council elections and make your vote count.
Because councils are critically important to the planning and development of riding facilities, bike riders need to engage in the democratic process to ensure that local government responds to our requirements.
Those of you with bike-friendly councils know how important the support of enlightened councillors can be in the quest of getting things right on the roads and paths. But these success stories are not as widespread as they should be.
This coming election, with Bicyle Victoria's help, we hope our members can get bike riding on the policy agenda of every candidate.
But first, make sure you have enrolled. Go to Victorian Electoral Commission website where you can check to see if you are enrolled at the right address. This is important because of council conducting elections by post.
If you have changed your post office box address or moved house you should get an enrollment form on line at www.vec.vic.gov.au, or at any local council, post office, Coles Supermarket or Centrelink.
August 2008 In the coming months we will keep you informed about the upcoming elections and what candidates are thinking bike-wise.
