02 July 08 Bass Coast Shire is undertaking a review of its bicycle strategy. This item has been noted here recently in our section on the Bass Coast Rail Trail. This process is ongoing. In relation to this review of strategy, there has been some commentary about the ongoing proposal to build a trail along the old railway line from Anderson to Nyora.
Bicycle Victoria currently believes that this proposal should be of lower priority for Bass Coast. Making improvements to the Bass Coast Rail Trail through initiatives such as completing the gaps in the trail along Phillip Island Road, linking the trail through San Remo to Phillip Island via the bridge, altering the alignment of the trail along the coastal walk from Kilcunda to San Remo, and pushing the western end of the trail out towards Inverloch from Wonthaggi would all have greater impact in getting more people cycling more often.
