Bike Parking Product Mix
About this page
Riders vary in strength and height, their bikes are different weights, so it makes sense to offer them alternatives when it comes to parking their bikes.
When selecting the style of bike parking rails for a site, we take a number of things into consideration. These include age, strength and height - we tend not to recommend schools use bike parking that requires students to lift their bikes.
- Corio Primary School recently installed bike parking for students riding to and from school, as well as a class set of bikes. The class set has been parked using the Ned Kelly vertical wall mount system in order to save space. Only staff access these bikes as it requires lifting. Both height and strength are important to do this comfortably. The student parking is a mix of ground mount rails.
- ANZ Bank needed bike parking for their staff, and a good mix of both Ned Kelly wall mounted rails and Flat Top ground mounted rails, made for efficient use of space, and provided riders with parking alternatives. Some riders prefer the Ned Kelly because they can park their bikes individually, while others prefer to park on the ground mounted rails because they prefer not to lift their bikes.
The table below is a useful starting point.
| Vertical Wall Mount (Ned Kelly) | Ground Mount Adult | Ground Mount Jnr | |
| Workplace/Restricted Access | 50% | 50% | - |
| Apartment Building | 45% | 45% | 10% |
| Public Space (less than 10 bikes) | - | 100% | - |
| Public Space (10 bikes or more) | - | 80% | 20% |
| Primary School | - | 33% | 67% |
| Secondary School | - | 67% | 33% |
Junior Ground Mount Rails
- Junior bike parking rails are scaled down versions of the adult rails. This provides better support for shorter wheel base junior bikes, and ensures the top tube of the bike and the rail are closer to one another to simplify the locking alternatives.
