Corkscrew Rails
About this page
Corkscrew bike parking rails look good -until you try and park bikes in them
The stainless steel corkscrew is often used in the forecourts of buildings because of its aesthetic quality. However its shape is not ideal for supporting bikes: it is difficult to park in the corkscrew, and bikes tend not to remain stable or upright. Ultimately this diminishes the rail's aesthetic impact, in addition to underperforming as a bike lock up.
For a similar aesthetic impact, but with a better outcome for riders, the Hula Hoop rail installed at 45 degrees is our recommended alternative. Other options include the stainless steel rail, the Arc de Triomphe.
