Using signage so people know where to park their bikes
Bicycle Victoria receives many questions regarding signage for Bicycle Parking.
Common questions include where can bike parking signs be purchased and if there is a standard bike parking sign.
How does signage help?
By clearly directing bike riders to your parking facility it means that there shouldn't be bikes locked up in strange places and first time users or visitors won't have to ask a staff member for directions.
Is there a standard bike parking sign?
Bicycle Victoria recommends signage similar to the attached example (PDF 11KB) which meets AS 2890.3.
Before purchasing a sign you need to work out:
- A prominent location that will be easy for riders to see
- The exact position of the bike parking facility in relation to where the sign will be placed
- The direction an arrow on the sign will need to point in order to guide the riders to the bike parking facility
- What material will the sign be attached to.
Once you have answered these questions you can then order a sign.

Bicycle Victoria use De Neefe Signs. They have branches throughout Australia. There are also many other sign fabricators in each state.
