North: Upfield Bike Path

The Upfield Bike Path commences near the Flemington Bridge railway station (Melway Ref 2A D1) where it joins the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and follows the Upfield railway line for 6km. It ends at Boundary Rd Merlynston (Melway Ref 17 G6) near Merlynston Station.

Upfield path grows

18 September 2008. The Upfield shared path has grown a 1.6km extension from Boundary Road to Box Forest Road following a $1.1 million VicRoads funding injection.

The project also included new traffic signals at the intersection of Sydney Rd and Lorne Street.

With around 800 users a day at its southern end the Upfield Path will benefit from this addition.

Upfield path

Jun 04 Coburg and Brunswick Bicycle Users Groups have been campaigning for the completion of a missing section of the Upfield path between Reynard and O'Hea Streets in Coburg and a signalised crossing at Bell St. Vic Roads has approved funding for a signalised trafficcrossing at the Bells Street crossing of the Upfield path.

Smoother ride

Jul 03 Council replaced 50 metres of the Upfield bike path between Dawson St and Michael St with a new concrete path that is more resistant to tree root damage, giving cyclists a smoother ride.

What we are asking for

We believe the Upfield Path should be a high quality path connecting from north of the Ring Rd to the Capital City Trail.

There are many space and alignment issues which need to be resolved along the path's length due to lack of space, poor fencing and unnecesary bounday issues with VicTrack and other landholders.

There are also many sections where the path dissapears through station precincts due to carparking and private access priorities for forklifts, etc
